My wifes sister Vicki lives in Arkansas, during a phone conversation she had to run into her shelter, something most have back there. I guess everything is cool or I would have heard about it by now.
Sad. These storms have been damn powerful the past few years. Even hail is unreal.
Is it anything like it was in 1981?
Well, I do know there have been Texas hail storms recently that have caused near a billion in damages.
Wasn't there one about three years back that shut down all the flights at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, and damaged all the airplanes on the tarmac?
Pretty crazy here in Arkansas. Nowadays, it seems like every year there is a tornado that hits my area. Yesterday, it actually hit my county. It's also pretty sad that there are not many shelters here. Houses aren't built with basements and storm shelters are few and far between. When I lived in Illinois, I remember almost all of the houses having basements. Arkansas seems to be in the worst part of tornado alley, yet they are the most unprepared. Such a poor state.

It is really bad right now tbh. What's horrifying is rain wrapped tornadoes, which seem to be common at the moment. And then with the night darkness...dangerous situation...

I see Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton's "Dorothy" is a farce.
Granted, we are only 1/3rd the way through the year, but 2011 saw 533 tornado deaths. 1974 had 366 deaths with a substantially smaller populations. If we look at these in terms of deaths per 100,000,000 people, 1974 was 172.4 vs 2011 at 177.8. If we go back to 1953, we have 326.9 per 100,000,000. The whopper was 1925, where we had 695.9 tornado deaths per 100,000,000.
Terrible. The tornado peak season hasn't even really started, has it? I thought the mid summer and early fall were primetime? Nonetheless, it is a terrible tragedy for those that lost a loved one.
Nope. Spring is prime time, in the summer the tornado threat shifts northward (Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa area) but ends around late July. Definitely not in the Fall
Thanks for the knowledge. I am now more informed about tornadoes. Terrible though nonetheless and I'll have to step up my donation game to the Red Cross this year.

Nah...we missed the worst of it. Got some pretty good size hail south of me but that's about it.
Must be all those wind mills creating a slightly larger back pressure.
