They were still talked about. Laughed at mostly. But then again, Boston is not as massive as L.A. in terms of exposure. With ESPN's office spread out west, it is still close to home. Plus, the 90's weren't as exposed as the 10s. Face it. There is no such thing as anonymity anymore. Even if you suck.
