As I told Nono, I missed most of the game. I only caught about half of the overtime. I don't want to venture a guess as to what happened to give Memphis their big lead, but OKC being able to come back so easily isn't encouraging to those who keep lauding Memphis' game plan. It seems to me that they pretty much are desperately trying to keep a lid on OKC, and they fail miserably when the Thunder feel equally desperate. This makes me feel that OKC is beating itself much like SA is doing against Dallas. I don't think the Grizzlies are any better than I originally thought. I still think they're getting lucky.

However, I don't know that since I've neither watched nor analyzed any of the recent games. I won't say you're wrong until I do so. In any event, I'm rooting for Memphis to finish OKC even though I expect the Thunder to demolish them in Game Six. I want to be wrong, but looking at how razor-thin Memphis' margin of error has been in this series despite everything going their way, I'm dubious.

Grizzlies are playing out of their minds, I don't really understand it. They're mentally tough, probably the toughest team in the whole NBA — but I still don't know if I see them winning this series.

Can they? They sure can, they've dominated the Thunder in most of the games, but still, talent-wise, OKC has them beat. They're pulling a Spurs and Pacers right now by letting lesser teams get into their heads.

They got their lead by limiting TOs, Allen defending Durant well, and Westbrook being Westchuck. It also helped Miller and Prince were hitting early on (and Millet in OT). They had like 5 TOs total by the middle of the third quarter then turned it over 5 or 6 times in the span of a few mins and OKC (notably Butler) started jacking threes and hitting; Durant also got loose a bit and mailed some shots. Basically, there was some flukiness, but Memphis' game plan on D has worked great.

You can tell that by looking at a box score, bro. These are Memphis-style games. The refs are allowing them to play aggressively on defense if last night's OT is a good indicator. I'm not saying every ball bounced their way or that they got every call. But they're absolutely controlling this series outside of random spurts in which OKC dominates them. The fact that they're squeaking by while winning 42 of 48 minutes every night does not really hearten me.

Thanks for the recap. To me, that just highlights the idea that Memphis is just barely keeping the lid on the Thunder now. Reminds me a lot of those early Wizards/Bulls games. Difference is, I believe Memphis has a better killer instinct than Chicago does, while I also think OKC lacks one. That's why the Thunder can't finish their comebacks while Washington could.

I think OKC comes out swinging next game like they did in Game Three of the 2012 WCF. They do desperation well. But they may lose Game Seven since they can't seem to step on anyone's throats properly.

It felt like MEM had to win the game 3 times...amazing the amount of noob mistakes they had.
    They deserved to win...
    Durant missing a FT...priceless.

Perkins is an offensive zero and Gasol is roaming the lane waiting for Durant and others.
Gasol is really the key man allowing Allen la ude to play close.
Perkins minutes are up to handle Randolph which is horrible for OKC on offense.

Scotty Brooks is doing a horrible job imo. OKC has looked frantic on offense the entire series when they can't get a break.
When Memphis scores or is at the foul line OKC can't run. Memphis may be lucky, but they are keeping the games close so they can get lucky. Even after blowing leads they are hanging.

I tell you exactly what Memphis is doing, since you haven't watched: they've completely zoned out the paint for OKC. No layups, no putbacks, no rebounding. OKC gets one jumper and it better go in. Slow pace, minimize turnovers and transition baskets.

If Westbrook or KD want to drive, they made it so the odds are 50+% that it's going to be a blocked shot or a turnover trying to kick it out. It's truly amazing to watch. Completely neutered the penetration game.
The extra bonus is that Ibaka is neutered and reduced to a jump shooter. Scotty even tried to make him a 3 point shooter, but Memphis will gladly live with that, since that actually reduces the tear and wear on their bigs.

OKC came out swinging in game 4 too, and that went to OT again after Reggie Jackson solved the penetration puzzle for about 2 quarters (and dropped 31 points on them). Joerger adjusted that in the last game, and it's back to the drawing board.
We have 5 games already played, 4 went to overtime and none were really a blowout (both teams gave up large leads in different games). Hard to call it a fluke with that sample size, tbh.

Memphis is hanging by a thread simply because Conley has been horrible, and ZBo has missed so many jumpers and freebies. It's almost better for OKC to foul him at this point.
OKC has infinitely much more talent than Mem, but Mem is the way more disciplined team in this series with a solid game plan, and fairly solid execution.

I need that gif of Stephen a smith shaking his head. You proceed to give these long posts analyzing these games after claiming you haven't analyzed them. We also all know that box score watching is basically never sufficient in breaking a game down except for baseball

No, when I mean analyze, I mean REALLY analyze, like charting things and breaking down plays. I don't mean a half-assed box score interpretation. You can tell pace from box score, but you can't tell shot quality and level of aggressiveness and things like that.
