yeah I forgot about Marion, he's the one guy who's been sort of consistent this series. Outside of 1-2 goofy shots a game, he's been pretty solid
Spurs are conceding open Marion three-pointers from the wing.

The Spurs have exposed Dirk's lack of defense more than any team in the NBA. As much as I hate to say it, the Mavs were a little lucky not to draw the Spurs in 2011. As good as Dallas' defense was, they didn't play any team in the playoffs that turned Dirk into a turnstile like SA would have. Dallas had the perimeter defenders and size to counter Durant/Lebron ooga booga'ing into the lane with reckless abandon and the Lakers twin towers (Gasol turning into a cuck bailed out Dirk on defense) so nobody was able to go after Dirk like the Spurs usually do.

Jason Kidd/Dirk pnr defense against Parker/Ginobili makes me cringe although I can't remember if SA had a quality big man outside of Duncan in 11 to use it
11 was still the Bonner+Blair era, and Splitter got minimal playing time. I think 2011 Dallas takes the 2011 Spurs pretty easily in 6, maybe 5.

IMO Marion and Dalembert both have not been getting enough minutes. Wright and Crowder need considerably less minutes, and Carter could have a few minutes cut as well if he's not hitting his jumper.

Marion and Dalembert have been the MVPs for Dallas so far in this series. Great defense, effort, and both of them seem to consistently come up with a bucket when the Mavs are cold to help stop the bleeding.

Well getting to the playoffs requires winning enough games over the course of 82 to qualify. Those wins against Sacramento and Utah count.
Sorry, but if the question "where would they be without Devin Harris?" is ever asked about a basketball team, then they just aren't very good.

IMO the Mavs have more talent than you say. I think the issue for most of the season has been effort and chemistry.

Many games were lost due to a lack of fire and energy, which can be attributed to the team being older, and is expected. So that part is kind of understandable for the regular season.

But the other thing that often lost games, was that the offense looked completely lost late in close games. There had to have been 10-12 games that they lost that came down to the final minute, where their offense just looked like a mess. I think that is where lack of chemistry came into play. I doubt we see this same team blow as many games in similar situations next year after they have had a full season to play with each other. That is usually where chemistry affects a team the most, is their late game half court offense. Generally, their offense was at its best when they ran a Dirk/Ellis PnR, much like in the past how it was a Dirk/Terry PnR. So hopefully they focus on using that primarily for their late game offense next season. Unfortunately, this team is also only getting older, so even though their chemistry should be much improved next year, their general playing ability may diminish further.

Either way it all boils down to this simple fact... Mark Cuban is a got.

Marion is 7/27 the last 3 games. His defensive impact is also lessened greatly when we have both TP/Manu out there as we can just PnR with whoever he isn't guarding.

Who knows, maybe this offseason is the one. Maybe LeBron will be really impressed when Cuban skips the free agency meeting with him to film Shark Tank and instead emails LeBron a cartoon he drew for him.

They really don't need him on TP at this point. He hasn't been driving effectively on anyone except Harris because he has a tendency to overplay too much. Even Calderon has been able to stay in front of Parker generally. His ankle must really be in bad shape if Calderon can somehow stick with him. Either way, all they need to do is go under the PnR and live with Parker shooting long 2s. If he hits, so be it.

Taking away the dribble penetration of Manu is more important at this time.

Nah, his plans are to get Carmello this offseason, and add K-Love next offseason. It's pretty much a done deal in Cuban's eyes, so we should feel safe for years to come

That's what I was thinking too IMHO. Put Marion on Ginobili and go under every screen for Parker. If he hits all those jumpers, oh well.

How have the Mavs won two games in this series when everybody is playing like garbage?
Some of our guys have been playing like absolute garbage themselves, tbh... In the first 4 games, Enrique had about 2 good quarters... it's unacceptable anyway you look at it. Mills only showed up very sporadically in the last 2 games. Beli is still trying to find directions to the arena, dude is a complete no-show this series. Diaw was also pretty terrible until game 4. Don't wanna take anything away from the Mavs, but we've been doing a lot of this to ourselves, which is perhaps the most disappointing part of it.

Yeah, I know. It was just wishful thinking out loud. I know we're not going to get CP3.

I do wonder what will happen if Sterling gets a restraining order from a judge to reins ute him as having daily operational control over the Clippers. The players union will instruct free agents not to sign with LAC. Existing players will demand a trade and refuse to suit up. He has to know that effectively speaking things can't go back to the way they were.

I don't get what Philip is talking about. Mavs deserve credit, but they are a mediocre to below average defense (especially for a playoff team) that has a gimmicky strategy that would literally only work against the Spurs. They are playing well above their heads collectively and because of that, its been a great series.

But they are no where near the team that the Spurs are. Spurs have played incredibly poorly and I agree with that it says more about the Spurs than the Mavs. The fact the Mavs didn't lose in 5 & the fact they could have won this series is a huge testament to their coach and players. But make no mistake - Spurs are clearly the better team.
