I'll clarify right now: You're right that I'm not "all that." I am not a basketball expert or even much more than an average fan. I'm not going to bring any Earth-shattering insight or professional-level breakdowns. What I can do is actually look at the games and find trends and strategies that other folks aren't really emphasizing. Anyone can do that.
I am not making a strong claim about this series precisely because I haven't watched most of the games. I am not saying my original take on Memphis is correct. I don't know that. If you want, I can tentatively agree that it wasn't and accept that the Grizzlies are leading this series because they are a much better team than I had thought. Whatever. What I have been saying is that I intend to actually look at the games and try to see exactly why Memphis is winning. I may get the same results as everyone here gets, or I may get different ones. It's not about me trying to not admit I was wrong. It's about me wanting to see why I was wrong or why so many people believe I was wrong.

What sucks is when OKC beats MEM and advances, Durant is going to be a monster again. Not only will their be no Tony Allen physically, there won't be one mentally and Durant is going to pummel his next opponent and OKC will go back to beasting.
I really, really hope that MEM can hold their game plan together and find enough offense to finish the job next game.
Yeah, matchups are king in the playoffs... I think same applies to the Spurs actually.
I don't think it does. Mavs are one of the best match ups for the Spurs and look at their struggles.
Both the Spurs and Thunder potentially losing their series has nothing to do with matchup issues tbh. Just huge chokejobs on both teams' part.
Yup - and there is no boogie man on the Mavs. Kevin Durant has a boogie man in Tony Allen and once he's gone, you will see a massive difference.
Westbrook
Didn't see these already posted, but wasn't going to scroll through the whole thread.
Nice Coach Nick video on the pros and cons of Westbrook against the Grizzlies in Game 5.
I really want Memphis to close this out at home. Would love to see Memphis embarrass monkeyball in the 2nd round.
at the start of the video I read "Russell Westbrook, The Good, The Bad, The Meth" (instead of Meh)
Do OKC fans like Westchuck? He's prob the Tony Romo of Basketball.
Westbrook in 4 overtime games in the series:
1 point, 0/14 from the field
It's insane how Memphis has won 3 overtimes in this series. Especially, when all those games went into overtime because of some miraculous OKC plays.
I guess they're mentally tough but it probably helps they're playing one of the stupidest teams in the league tbh
It's equally amazing that Memphis blew fourth quarter leads in all of the three overtime games they won. You can question how they manage leads but you can never question their balls.
I have been of the biggest Westbrook apologists. I cannot defend his shot selection and sloppy play down the stretch of games. he makes amazing breth-taking plays but also some of the dumbest bone head plays of the post-season.
I dont get though why this board is not giving Durant some of the blame. I also am a big KD fan. But Allen has locked him up. He has admitted as such, with the Allen is in my head stuff.
The best scorer since Mj according to HH is averaging 20.5 on 33% FG% and just under 6 turnovers with the series on the line.
He has Reggie Jackson playing a Jannero Pargo role and Allen looking like the DMVP. Allen deserves all the accolades but shouldn't great offense especially an all-time great scorer beat Allen's defense?
I am sorry but some of you on here are ing hypocrites. When Lebron was on the Cavs his supporters argued what can he do with Mo williams as his #2? Haters he needs to win he is the MVP. But durant gets a pass?
Yes, Brooks is a ty coach.
YEs, Presti was a dumbass for letting Harden walk.
YEs russ shoots too much.
But Durant is the star. Het gets the lion's share of the praise he should get the lion's share of the blame. PERIOD.
You guys only crucify the guys you hate. Many claim to love stats and advanced metrics by any measure Durant has been less than stellar vs. Allen and dem Grizz.

His performance in this series is indefensible. If he pulled that in UCLA I would wrap in with duct tape together with tommy
Not making excuses for them, but they're a ing disorganized team trying to win on talent and athleticism alone. They have such an advantage in those areas, that it works against 90% of the league, but it isn't working this series. Memphis erected one wall in the paint (Gasol), and one wall in the perimeter (Allen), and after five games they're still trying to jump over them. "Run the ball, run the ball" isn't going to get it done.
They know full well what Memphis is doing, but they keep trying to go one on one, or jacking up ridiculous shots. In Game 4, they did a conscious job of moving the ball, and Reggie gave them a huge lift, but by the end of the game, Scotty kept running ISO plays for Reggie. You can't do that. If you're getting moving the ball, keep moving the ball. By Game 5, Reggie was a non-factor again, and instead you had Caron and Fisher hitting 3s any time they moved the ball. At the end of the game, down only 1, he draws a 35ft heave for Durant wrapped around 3 defenders? I mean, Durant could make that, he's that good, but that's really the best you can come up with? You had 3 seconds to work with.
OKC losing this series is 1000x more a choke than the Spurs getting 8'd in 2011 tbh. Not even close.
