The Houston Rockets are going to take a risk with Chandler Parsons, but which one?

Parsons is under contract for $964,750 next season with a team option.

If the Rockets pick up the option, they’d get Parsons for that ultra-cheap salary next year. However, he’d become an unrestricted free agent in 2015, and Houston would face a greater risk of losing him for nothing.

If the Rockets decline the option, Parsons would become a restricted free agent this summer. The Gilbert Arenas applies only to players with one or two years experience, so Parsons doesn’t qualify. But because the Rockets has Parsons’ full bird rights, they could match any offer he receives. Plus, Parsons’ restricted status would likely cool the market for him, because other teams would know Houston could match any offer.
Q: How do you make a decision on picking up the option on Chandler Parsons’ contract when you don’t know what will happen in free agency two weeks after your deadline to make a decision?

A:”We won’t know everything we need to know when we have to make a decision on Chandler’s (contract) option. We have to make the best decision at the time we have to make it (June 29).”
Morey’s decision very well could hinge on Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin.
Asik and Lin hold actual 2014-15 salaries of $14,898,938 (even though their cap amounts are lower), so trading them won’t be easy. The Rockets definitely think Asik is undervalued, and they might be right. But if nobody else knows it, it doesn’t matter as far as trades. They face similar difficulties with trading Lin.

MVParsons is a good, young, cheap player with upside. I hope the Rockettes lose him tbh.

I'd trade him now. Soon he's going to be making more money than he's worth.

He's a good 4th option player on a cheap contract. Rockets will keep him.

Lin wasn't a Morey pick. Morey cut him the first time. Alexander was pissed at Morey for waiving him, and is why Alexander wanted him back after the whole Linsanity bull .

I agree. He should take blame for that too. Trading him before the season should have been priority.

Morey should have kept Dragic, tbh.... Dragic and Dwert would be a far scarier team than Harden and Dwert....

Howard would have never come if just Dragic. And no, just no.

Dwert's even dumber than I thought, then.... then again, he is single-handedly keeping McFail's job safe

It's funny. Dwight supports McHale, Harden doesn't.

You'd think Harden would love a coach who lets him chuck and not play defense while being too scared to hold him accountable, tbh....

Parsons supports him too, though I want him gone. His game has gone to his head and he isn't anything more than a role player and he's playing for a contract in which he'll demand around 50 mil. Beverley isn't a starting PG, nor Lin. Jones is a SF, not a starting PF. So you have multiple low IQ players (Beverley, Lin, Jones, Motiejuanas) at your most important positions in which two of your PGs cannot dribble in the clutch (Beverley, Lin). With all that, better coaching beats Portland. If you keep McHale, you better hire a lead assistant who controls the offense, and defense. Someone who can replace him.

McHale doesn't hold anyone accountable, which is why Parsons never shut the up with the insane amount of talking he did. And he paid for it. Kelvin Sampson was the leader of the team through most of the season until he left.

Perfect D to let Lillard get open for the 3.

I don't think they'll match any offer for MVParsons. They're still hoping to land Melo so they have to preserve their cap room. The Lockets will pick the team option to have him for another cheap year I think, and they'll then look to trade him away packed with Rin or Asik.

houston is the only texas team that isn't facing a downward trajectory when looking at the next 3 years or so. at that point, houston will still have harden and dwight, and will shift some pieces around. the money being spent on lin and asik will get them some good players hopeully, they may or may not retain parsons, and at that point will likely have a coach not named McHale... on the other hand, the German is declining and that team has no future, and the Spurs aren't going to get any better than they have been the last 2 seasons

they're certainly better than the mavs, which is why they were able to land Dwight even though the mavs were tanking for 2 years in an effort to land him

Howard's pretty stupid to think that James Harden can magically become a great passer for the team and make an effective inside outside combo tbh... if he was smart he would've chosen a team with a better PG or at least demanded that Houston try to trade for a star PG
