Mark Eaton.

Damn, a Mark Eaton mention on Spurstalk! Surprised someone remembers that dude. He was a defensive MONSTER. Highly underappreciated big man imo

Not better than Billy Hoyle !
Yeah, Mark was a 2x DPOY and the all-time NBA leader in blocks per game. Giant scary guy holding down the paint in the old days for the Jazz. Huge man, made Malone look small standing next to him.

Eaton so big he made Mcdaniels looked like Gary Payton on this pic.
I was never a Jazz fan but Eaton was a beast.
Jerry Sloan was an awesome perimeter defender.
What about Laimbeer?
Neither was I. In fact I hated the Jazz, but I certainly remember Eaton. In 84-85 he had 5.56 blocks per game. The next closest was Hakeem with 2.68, meaning he had almost 3 more blocks per game than the number 2 man in the league. The guy was 2 inches taller than Roy Hibbert, to give you some scale. And like Hibbert he wasn't lanky but filled the space.
For those too young to know, here's the video:
If he can defend our country then he can most certainly shut down a wing.![]()
Not technically white. It would be hard to place him that high in that regard so early. He's only been in the league 4 season and in the rotation 3 years. He definitely one of the best team defense bigs in league. Surprisingly mobile and uses his body and length to effective challenge shots.
Anybody thinking that this Tiago is leaps and bounds from last playoffs?
Eaton was an amazing shot blocker, but not a great all around defender
He's come quite along way from the guy who was emasculated in front of millions of people in last year's finals
Eaton was the second best white defender on his own team. John Stockton has got to be number one, and AK47 is probably second.

Game footage of Jerry Sloan and comments of opposing players he defended. Video quality isn't the best but it's 5 minutes worth watching. He may remind you of someone with the Spurs.
Dirk... just kidding.
Lambeer didn't always intimidate around the rim but he had a flop that could put Vlade's to shame and a Bowenesque bag of tricks that could get under anybody's skin.
He was also a really good defender.
Bobby Jones. Philadelphia 76ers.
