You mean to tell me that Tulane, Tennessee State, Bloomsburg College, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, Lindewood, Maine, Southern Methodist, Southern Mississippi, Concordia University, Towson, Colorado State, Kent State, Georgia Southern, Pittsburgh State, Rice, North Dakota State, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, and the Ivy League were able to get players drafted in the 2014 NFL draft and Texas couldn't? Holy crap.
I loved Houston's draft. I thought they used their first-overall status to get great players. Jacksonville's and Oakland's drafts are dependent on them getting their QB right. The Raiders should have a good pass rush with all the pieces they added, and they picked up a starting guard, which is never a bad thing. Jacksonville went all in on offense, and from what I've read, they intend to cut Blackmon if he's ever reinstated. That will be interesting.
The Ravens spend their first three picks this year on the same positions they used their first three picks last year on: safety, defensive tackle and inside linebacker. In a way, that's head-scratchingly redundant. On the other hand, the team now has future starters at all six of those positions locked up for three years. These two drafts could end up being the foundation for the new era of dominant defense.
They barely addressed the offense, but I don't know if they really needed to after trading for Monroe and Zuttah, and signing Daniels and Smith. Gillmore and Campararao seem to be long-term role-players, while Urschal is supposedly a mathematical genius. I know almost nothing about that CCU RB they drafted in the fourth, but supposedly Kubiak loved him, so I have to hope he fits in to what the team wants to do.
Baltimore is just following the same formula they by in large have been using since I've been watching football, which is the same as what SF has adopted. After losing Lewis and Ellerbe they have drafted 2 ILB's in the last two years, after losing Bernard Pollard and Ed Reed they have gone on to draft two safeties. You have to love the approach/mindset they have to keep the defense consistent. They addressed quite a few needed offensive positions late in draft (interior line, receiver, running back). Not sure they needed to take a QB there, but overall I really like what they've been doing. They seem to be banking on a huge year from Pitta.
As for what you said about the raiders/jags, yeah. When an team is rebuilding their offense, 75% of the work is having your QB pan out. The reason I've been banging the table to get Carr to Oakland is that we are in a spot where any rookie QB would be redshirted. Carr is widely considered to be the best passer in the draft, but his concerns come with his footwork (particularly against pressure) and the scheme he played. Those are the two adjustments quarterbacks are often asked to make. The huge red flags are QB's with issues coming from throwing mechanics or accuracy in general, as well as size. Carr suffers from neither of these. Given that he won't be thrown into the fire until they deem him ready, its a nice spot and a pick that i've been visibly thrilled with. I'm also glad we didn't reach or trade up to get him, which is something many projected us doing.
With Bortles, I'm not sure he's ready to step in day 1, he was pretty raw and relatively inexperienced, but I'm not sure how long the Jags are going to keep trotting Henne out there. At least they are doing everything in their power to make it work, by drafting two receivers with their next two picks. A lot of QB's get ed because they are thrown into spots where success is impossible early, and they never recover (David Carr, Joey Harrington are classic cases of this, as well as recent picks like Geno Smith, Blaine Gabbert, to an extent Sam Bradford). Both the Raiders and Jags are putting themselves in a position to eliminate that threat.
While I love what Houston did in their draft, I'm really curious to see how the QB thing sorts itself out. Savage is pretty raw, even more so than Bortles. He has an arm, but I doubt he's NFL ready, and probably needs a year and possibly two before being handed the reigns. I think Mettenberger would have been more ready, but Savage has less off-field/injury concerns. At the same time, riding Fitzpatrick isn't going to get them far. With their roster, I feel like they could compete, but their QB spot is holding them back.

I'm curious to see what O'Brien can do with Savage though. Fitzpatrick will probably start the season, unless Keenum beats him out. I think Savage has a pretty decent upside. There's really no true option that would help us compete this year, they'd have to find a way to go get Winston next year. I love what O'Brien is doing though, building a big, physical grind it out team unlike Kubiak, whose teams were soft as pudding.
That defense could be really fcking nasty tho.

Yeah, while I think Houston got some good players (and Savage was getting a LOT of hype prior to the draft), I'd just be a bit frustrated since it felt like they have a roster ready to compete now, but they are going to be held back because of one position. Savage could be really good down the line, 6'5 with a cannon arm and solid accuracy... he just has very little experience. I'd be shocked as if he started a meaningful game this year.
Yeah I aqree. The Texans are usually first pick bad in years where there are no franchise QBs at the top of the draft. I'm not as frustrated though because it's a new staff, and they were really put in a bad position...Seattle provided the blueprint of building a dominant D by UDFA signings, and winning with a game manager. So I wouldn't be mad if they went that route first.

The fact that he loves white should mean nothing to the NFL. I just laugh at these people that are saying that he should be judged by his character or merit. That's bull . People are clearly judging him for loving whether it's in a bad or good way. He should be judged by his football skills and talent and that's it. If he sucks at football, it's because he just sucks. Not because he likes guys. If you aren't good at something, it's just not meant to be. And I am just going to laugh when he gets cut by the Rams. He is going through such a hissy fit over it. I wonder if his husband will be close by so they can have a good cry and hug it out.
You're getting a solid 2nd to 3rd WR. He had moments of brilliance but also showed why it took til the 2nd round for him to get drafted. He's coming off an injury-riddled year and a half. He is slight for his size and his speed isn't Watkins or Brandin Cooks level but he'll be a solid possession receiver and may stretch the field a little bit. Too many people are making too much of the 40 time per usual, but he's going to give you maximum effort. I see him being a great complementary piece for Bortles. He may be a no.1 if he puts on some more muscle and his consistency is not murky in that he will look disinterested or not want to take a hit and drop balls that should have been easy pulls. Now, he was catching passes from the erratic Matt Barkley and Cody Kessler, but you have to do better than he shown. I say he has a pretty long career as a no.2-no.3. Definitely a 2nd-3rd round pick but may surprise many. Has to get more crisper in route running since he doesn't have consistent breakaway speed. However, if he takes the NFL serious and he works hard on his nutrition and workouts, he'll do Jax a service and will be a great young piece to augment Blake Bortles in the future.The Gemini Method bro talk up lee for me
They've already implemented the seminars to deal with racism, fiscal responsibility, side chicks/girls who'll you and claim rape, and other workshops.
