A lot of folks on here have acknowledged that a lot of people of both genders in San Antonio are fat.

Making fun of the female half of that group is what is making people mad.

Just because something is true doesn't mean it should be a source of jokes.

Some people are clinically mentally re ed, but that does not excuse people making fun of them on national television and calling them 're ed' or something. Do you not see the parallel?

I just don't understand the outrage or people getting offended by some relatively harmless ribbing by Barkley. Granted, I don't live in SA or am offended by much but just seems like people need to lighten up.

I think most women are smart enough to not develop some sort of complex from something that fat ass Charles Barkley says on a show that is geared towards adult males tbh.....

Well, I am lucky enough (and I do mean lucky) to have been thin all my life…even when I really didn't want to be. I am not a native of San Antonio, and I have lived in 6 states and three countries. I live here now and I see overweight people everywhere I look. But I see the same kind of people when I go to other cities like St. Louis, Dallas, New Orleans. And I know overweight people in all of those cities and it makes my heart hurt to see them made fun of. And it does make me mad to see a FAT GUY make fun of FAT WOMEN!!!

I mean, I have heard the comedians I listed reference Fat Americans…but that is not consistently and repeatedly beating on one cities' WOMEN when they themselves are fat. I mean, none of them are…but Barkley is!!

Barkley is from my home state and went to my father's and brothers' school, and he gets totally bent out of shape if anyone disparages his state or his school (which he never finished), and he is totally fat himself!!! The idiocy of it absolutely makes me nuts!!

You are totally right about the show gearing itself to an adult male audience, but that just reinforces the belief that it is okay for guys to be fat but not for women. Barkley is not making fun of fat people…he is making fun of fat San Antonio women, and he has been saying the same thing for YEARS!!

I wrote on the ptr blog that his shtick is old and tedious, and it is. I guess as much as anything I'm just sick of it.

But I am mad that it perpetuates the double standard of fat men being able to make fun of fat women.

Like you said, it's his schtick. If you're tired of it then that's perfectly understandable but I feel like a lot of the outrage are from people who don't understand that (see: Peggy Howell in Nono's post) nor do they understand that Chuck is just giving what his target audience wants. To be offended by that just seems silly to me and I found the complaints on PtR to be flatout cringeworthy tbh.

Chuck is made fun of for being fat regularly on that show tbh. It's like the biggest running joke on Inside the NBA.

Basically, if you don't like it then just do as Chuck says and don't watch. Chuck has been this way for YEARS and it's an emmy award winning show with high ratings so obviously the majority of people don't have issue with it.

I just hate it when great shows, comedians, people, etc. have to acquiesce just because a group in the minority is offended. That's the worst tbh.
