It costs more because of the appeals process. Not because the electric chair costs more to operate than a giant razor blade.
Sorry, if there is no doubt that someone has committed an appalling crime like raping and murdering a child etc... there is no place for them in society. I would actually be cool with an eye for an eye sort of sentence, but in the interest of making society a safer place in the cheapest way possible, a gun to the head or the guillotine need to be the way to go. No need for countless appeals when the writing is on the wall. We are a an extremely litigious, red-tape,happy society and a good portion of the time all that crap can be cut out.

I'm against the death penalty, tbh.... unlike jailtime, if someone is wrongfully executed, there's no going back, and execution actually costs more in taxpayer $$$ than a life sentence....
Its better to kill 100 guilty men at the price of an innocent, then letting them all walk away and continue to unleash their psychopathic tendencies in society. It summarizes our foreign policy pretty well, where we kill far more innocent bystanders through drone attacks...so no need to for hypocrisy here.

Not all states are red-tape happy. Texas, on average, still executes more people than anyone in the U.S. or any other country on a whole. I certainly understand the eye-for-an-eye sentiment especially in child rape/murder cases and elderly rape/murders but it has to be correct. If there weren't any checks or balances, the accidental execution of innocent people cannot continue to be a by-product of the need for capital punishment. Though, the lengthy appeal process does lend itself to a needed re-vamping of the system. It will always be an imperfect system and will have the supporters and detractors to continue this debate.

I think our foreign policy needs to change too, so I don't see the hypocrisy here....

Of course France/UK declared War on the Reich and not vice versa but what did their empty declaration do? The Phony War. After Germany's surprisingly easy victory over France, Hitler's judgement was forever clouded with arrogance.

hitler was an idealist and an astute observer of history. he knew that in order to control Europe, you must control the East first. when Bismarck united the germans, he knew that Prussia and the eastern states would be crucial to powering germany's industry. Hitler took that idea to heart.

so of course Poland was hitler's first target (and the czech republic, austria, etc. that's his whole deal with lebenstraum). but russia was in the way so he used shrewd diplomatic measures like Bismarck to gain control of the East. conquering the West was his ultimate goal though, but because he was so intoxicated by the blitz...not to mention the amount of meth he was ingesting...he sped up his plan as quickly as he could...ironically falling to the same russian winter that Napolean did.

what he didn't want to do was piss off the US. maybe he was trying to speed up his war before the US could get out of the depression. who really knows...

I think the effect of the depression magnified the Blitzkrieg's success at first. You had countries that were crippled and unable to really retrofit and update their military might. Yes, the French army was the largest pre-WWII but they were still using archaic technology and warfare maneuvers that were first introduced in the Napoleonic War era. Hitler had to know that the U.S. and Russia would be the two nations that he would have to avoid if he had any hope of controlling Europe. The fact that he was buoyed by incompetent allies in Mussolini and Nazi sympathetic types in The Netherlands and Slavic regions, didn't help either. They proved to be mere paper barricades for the Red Army. I think if Hitler had taken more time and bolstered his complete military might instead of focusing primarily on the SS and Luftwaffe while not having a heavier Kriegsmarine and spreading his forces out across too much of a geographic frontier, he might've sustained a longer war. Couple with the majority of the 3rd army and co. being caught in Russia during a blizzard, you had the recipe for a shorter campaign.

definitely fascism was the best way out of the depression. having a powerful military industrial complex is what bolstered the economy and gave them reason to work. the same thing happened with the US, Japan, etc...

but you can only support such an economy for so long before the temporary micro economic boost has larger macro implications. giving the war machine a reason to fight and carry on at the expense of other nations keeps the economy flowing. the quicker the war, the better, before longer term economic effects kick in. the same happened with the romans, mongolians, and Soviet Union, and is exactly what eisenhower warned against.

Hillary Clinton has ALWAYS been an unelectable presidential candidate.
Not giving the ball to Marshawn Lynch near the goal with 27 seconds to go in the Super Bowl wasn't that horrible of a call.
Kevin Love is a better fit and for the Cavaliers than Andrew Wiggins as well as a better basketball player.
As a football fan I don't miss football one bit when the season is over.
