Why would he split the money? Unless he goes to TNT his earning days are over after next season.
It's legally ambiguous. As far as the CBA is concerned, Garnett's money is guaranteed no matter what happens. But in the real world, he can be sued for not rendering services for which he is being paid. So to avoid getting into a court battle over which interpretation should be followed, teams and retiring players agree to a buyout before the retirement officially goes through. So essentially, the player agrees to give back some money for a guarantee that the team won't sue.
KG is old but he can still do a job on the court imho, if he joins the spurs he will be our 2nd best big in our rotation.

Great player in his prime and very passionate! I liked that part of his game. I thought he was an ass and a jerk alot of times though especially after he got to Boston and got that le! He showed alot of passion for the game though and I was a huge fan of his on Minny.Sheed got sick of this league and retired prematurely in 010 and said he is done with it, if Perkins did not get hurt they win that le! It was a small robbery, but thats the NBA. Lakers got robbed against them in game 2 of the 2008 finals, only a Korean would be too blind to see that. It's even steven for all I'm concerned. It's a fixed league though, I really wish it wasnt so.
