I'll check it out.
On a side note, do you happen to know when jazz broke away from blues to become its own separate genre?
As a musician I am curious to know.
So, thanks to the Spurs, I had some free time open up last night. Decided I would actually look at some books about the blues and see if anything looked interesting. I downloaded a sample from Delta Blues : The Life and Times of the Mississippi Masters Who Revolutionized American Music. Yes, that's the actual le. I was committed to reading it if it was even OK but it turned out to be very well written and insightful. I ended up buying the book and am about 1/4 in. If anyone has any interest at all in the subject, I highly recommend this one. It doesn't really glamorize the blues but instead gives an extremely readable account of the history combined with some of the author's opinions.
Check it out

Here's what I'm going to do for you. These are those Delta players, yes all of them who recorded between 1926 and 1942. Now a lot of guys were born there but would move on and become famous somewhere else, John Lee Hooker a good example of that, he s a Detroit bluesman. Those listed are known as "Delta Players" unless noted otherwise
1926-1929
Freddie Spruell
Rube Lacy...one record****
Tommy Johnson...originater of that Crossroads story
Ishman Bracey
Rosie May Moore/Mary Butler...used both
Charlie McCoy
Bobby Grant...one record
Jim Thompkins..one song!
William Harris
Mississippi John Hurt...from Avalon
Uncle Bud Walker
Cryin' Sam Collins
Garfield Akers
Joe Calicott
Big Bill Broonzy...more of a Chicago player
Kid Bailey
Charley Patton,,,,,the most influensal of all Delta players
1930-1935
Skip James...not really from the Delta, Bentonia
Geechie Wiley
Mississippi Sheiks
Big Joe Williams...more of a St. Louis player
Elvie Thomas
Mattie Delaney
Son House
Willie Brown
Bukka White
Arthur Pettis
Mississippi Bracey
1936-1942
Mississippi Moaner (Isaiah Nettles)
Sonny Boy Nelson
Willie "Poor Boy" Lofton
Moses Andrews
Tommy McClennen
Robert Petway
Robert Lockwood
Willie "61" Blackwell
Robert Johnson
Muddy Waters...while known as a Chicago bluesman he did record while in the Delta
David "Honeyboy" Edwards
Mississippi Fred McDowell the most important Delta player to come later on, he first recorded in 1959. Right there on his front porch, just like Muddy Waters.
Let me know if you come across anyone in the book not mentioned there. It's pretty common on CD's to find all of Misissippi considered the Delta.
**** he became a preacher and dumped them blues. I found out he was living/preaching in nearby Bakersfield (an hour away) I was going to go find this originator of them Delta blues, he died before I got the chance, bummer.

Avente, don't know if you answered this question yet, but do you know when jazz first broke away from blues to become its own genre?
Will you believe him though? I mean, you hate liars and trolls and he told us all that's pretty much what he does...so I'm not sure if you could take his word or anything....I assume avante is telling the truth here because he seems to take music pretty serious but how will you know?

Hypocrite
While blues came before jazz, it was jazz that first showed up on records, the year 1917 is when we started seeing the music on record.

Thanks for the info.
Do you know the artist?
^ Hypocrite trusting the words of an admitted liar and troll ^

Wow! Thanks!
Hypocrite
LOL. I'm reading this book for pure enjoyment. Not to respond to each of your posts that are deliberately inaccurate (exclusive of my reply here).
Both of you guys have extensive knowledge on the subject, and even though I play it, you have more than I do.
Just don't understand why you have an issue with each other tbh.
You cannot talk Delta Blues and not talk those I mentioned as you are seeing.
someone needs to roll you and Avante up in a big sweaty man burrito and feed it to the coyotes.
Yawn. off, liar!
I didn't attack you, yet you post An attack?
...why am I a liar now?
Honestly, I don't know if you are or not. But if you are a troll, then you are a liar too.
That is just my patent reply to the trolls on here because they bore me to tears.
They are not even worth bashing anymore. They are too stupid to realize they are being owned, plus they rarely read what is posted anyway.
I was being civil with you asking an honest question and you fired back your attack.
I figured you must be another idiotic ignorant troll.
You need to pull your head out of your ass amigo, ok?
While reading your book you'll be..Avante mentioned him.
