The outcome of the Finals itself won't really affect whether the Spurs make any huge changes. What will really matter is what Duncan and Ginobili do after the Finals are over.
What will happen next year? Any adjustments the team should be making? Trades?
, i wish the NBA finals starts already..![]()

Duncan and Manu have 2 more years left in the tank. book it.
If we win it, I am pretty sure they won't come back.
Win or lose they'll be back.
Diaw stays, Mills leaves. I think they try and move up in the draft .
Agree on Mills, someone is going to give him midlevel money (I can even see 3 / $20). If CoJo's shot ever develops - don't forget he's essentially the age of a college senior right now - he'd be a more interesting option than Mills. Diaw meanwhile is a must re-sign.
Green is a key piece to what they're trying to do, but I'm worried someone is going to give him a stupid offer a year out in free agency. Green + 30th pick to move up for the right guy would be great assuming they can find another 3 and D guy. Not sure that's enough to get a deal done though.
Back to the matter at hand, as there are at least four more games to be played.
No one is giving Mills that much money. He is essentially at his ceiling right now, a backup pg that plays scrappy defense and is a deadly shooter, but he is too physically limited to assume a larger role for another team. He could probably get an offer similar to Neal last year somewhere in the area of 3-4 million a year by a team looking for a scoring punch off the bench, but hes not getting anywhere near 6-7 million a year.
I think whether Mills leaves depends on two main things:
1. If he's willing to take less money to stay with the Spurs, and
2. Whether the Spurs view him as another Gary Neal, or as a potential 6th man when Manu retires.
He has the energy and shooting to be a good 6th man, but he doesn't fit quite as well positionally, since Parker looks poised to be a top 3 player on this team for the foreseeable future.
So far it is safe to say Mills performance in the playoffs is a little bit below compared to regular season. I don't think he will get offered too much money.
Does Daye still have a year ? He certainly has potential and can blossom under Pop's teaching.
team option for $1,063,384. And the Spurs will need money if they want to keep Diaw and Mills. Thank God Bonners contract is up.
Mills should get what Belinelli got. Around 2,5M. I guess he'd take 2 years 5M. He likes the team so why not.
What about Baynes and Error ? 1 of them plus Bonner have to go.
Bonner is not going anywhere so not be a fool. Diaw will take less money cause he loves it here.
Baynes has a qulifying offer of $1,115,243. I don't think anyone will offer more than that, so he'll probably stay.
Errors is sadly under contract for the next season and will be getting almost 2M.![]()
Just give him the vet.min. and I am OK with it.
Don't we have to split the MLE between Patty and Boris? And Diaw will likely command the full MLE just to keep him.
I think Mills stays, unless he is offered some ridiculous $$.
Hey, the Pacers gave George Hill $8 million a year plus the rights to three draft picks (backup PG that plays better defense but a crappier shooter)... He's not quite the shooter that Neal was but is all around a much better player.
But you're probably right, $4-$5 million is the most he'll see as teams have smartened up.
Don't we have bird rights on both guys at this point? Wouldn't have to use MLE in that case I think. We didn't before on Diaw because he was a new FA signing.
They will be back. Spurs have at least 1 more run in them, possibly two. Robinson wouldn't have retired if it weren't for his back. He even said he wanted to play a couple more years but the pain was becoming too excessive. Another sport, but the same was with Elway.
Both Manu and Duncan have no chronic injury and are still playing at a high level. They will be back for another year. Depending on how next year goes, I can see both coming back for one more year. They both know, once its over it over. As a compe or, you don't want to stop until you lose that compe ive edge of playing or physically can't do it anymore, which neither are experiencing at the moment.
Don't need the MLE. Spurs have the Bird Rights to both Mills and Diaw at this point. They have been playing for the Spurs for 3 seasons. They can sign them over the Luxury tax if they want to to keep them. But I hardly think it will come to that.
Spurs will probably resign Diaw, Bonner, & Mills. Depending on who they draft, they will cut or keep Daye (to develop), and they will have one more player slot to sign someone with the MLE. Maybe Pierce or Granger. Or the Spurs just might ride another year with the same team. Have made back to back Finals with it anyhow.
CoJo backup PG and we get a shooter.
