Hope we send these clowns home in 4....
http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miam...ts-memorabiliaRecords with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office reveal that, last Thursday, an attorney representing Riley's company, Riles & Co., filed a trademark to use the phrase "3-Peat" on "jewelry, namely rings and sports memorabilia."

Stuff like this happens all the time, although this particular instance is funny because the Heat aren't the first team to ever 3-peat. In January 2008, before the Super Bowl had even been played, there was a pre-sale entry posted to Amazon for a book about the New England Patriots 19-0 undefeated championship season. They lost the Super Bowl a couple weeks later.
No surprised about this one though since the Heat definitely have the tiest fanbase in pro sports right now. I have ass hairs older than the average number of years current Heat fans have been rooting for the Heat.
IMO its the legal system run amok...why the are you even allowed to trademark such banal crap
Just adding more bottom line to the cost of everything in life..the goal of the American legal/corporate overlords
He has also trademarked the word ™
Riley got the trademark for "Three-Peat" about 25 years ago when he was coach of the Lakers, or basically one year after the Heat became an expansion franchise . Over time he had added variations to the original phrase, like "3-peat" this year. I think he has four different trademarks now. Riles made money off the 90's Bulls and 00's Lakers with this stuff. It's nothing new.
Also the Yankees. It is funny, though, that the original reason for the trademark didn't pan out (thanks to the Pistons)
Do 3 career losses in the finals qualify as a 3-peat?
for the record, i like riley. he's far more tolerable than that d-bag phil "the tamperer" jackson.
Yeah he is a because he was smart enough to abuse the patent system and make money out of it. you guys are just salty and envious.
And the words "losers" and "idiots".
Spurs have the tiest fan base. Just look at this board for proof.
Here's looking at you, kid.
Nah, that's just the people in San Antonio who don't know there are other sports besides basketball. Same people who get offended when someone says the riverwalk is dirty.
Wonder how much money he made in 1999 off Houston's most successful sports franchise, the Comets.
One of the saddest parts about blowing 6 was the look on Pat Riley's face right after LeBron turned it over before the comeback.
Hope we win the finals just to block them and the media from saying 3peat tbh.
