While Marvel brought a new kind of superhero far different that what we were seeing from DC it is the Heroic Fantasy relm that is the most interesting, with some of those heros becoming comic book heros, like Conan, Thor, Hercules. (yes I'm tossing Mythology in with Heroc Fantasy). Tarzan, Elric of Melniborne, Kothar, Oron, Kyrik, Thongor, Kane, Kothar, John Carter on Mars about as good as it gets. The Conan, Solomon Kane, King Kull stories by the great Robert H. Howard are masterpieces in the Heroic Fantasy World.
DC had it's Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman but they lacked a hard edge, they were too soft. Flash was interesting but he couldn't match up with Mercury/Hermes from the Mythology world. Thor is a badass and his hammer the greatest weapon in all of fantasyland. Celtic Myhology far superior to what the Greeks and Romans came up with.
The Avengers would have their hands full with The Justice League of America. People forget about John Jones the Martian Manhunter, he was just one wrung below Superman when it came to superpowers.
Elric of Melniborne and his Vampiric runesword Stormbringer the greatest of all Heroic Fantasy her....ah...not sure we could call him a hero. The deranged Albino Prince relying on his soul sucking blade, Stormbringer to keep him vibrant. Fantastic stories there.
Then there's Tolkien and his Lord of the Rings saga.
Hollywood has yet to attempt the Elric epic. what a shame.
As I've said before no we aren't ready for sexuality. We will always have little freaks like this above. Too many re s/immature punks out there and there always will be.
It is funny however that when we see actual conversations where a person is going to be held accountable it's..'hey, ok with me". But when they get hidden away like here a whole other story.
