Adam Shefter "expert" writes that Kaepernick led the 49ers to 3 straight NCF Chamiopnship games.
too stupid to remember that Alex Smith was the QB for the fist one

    Sources: Kaepernick, 49ers agree

    Updated: June 4, 2014, 4:04 PM ET
    By Adam Schefter | ESPN

Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers reached agreement on a six-year extension worth over $110 million that ties him to the team through 2020, sources told ESPN Insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
The deal, worth $61 million guaranteed, makes Kaepernick as one of the NFL's top-10 quarterback and includes a record amount of guaranteed money. He was scheduled to have made $1.073 million this season.
It also is the ultimate sign of confidence that the 49ers have no worries about Kaepernick's role in an off-season incident in Miami that police still are investigating.
The deal for the 26-year-old Kaepernick is expected to have strong implications on potential deals for Cam Newton, Andy Dalton and Alex Smith this year, along with Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson next year, when they are eligible to sign their first NFL contract extensions.

Kaepernick is 21-8 as the 49ers starting quarterback and has led San Francisco to three straight NFC Championship games. >

Colin Kaepernick, 49ers reach six-year deal extension

    • By Gregg Rosenthal

    • Kaepernick, 49ers reach six-year extension worth up to $126M

Less than two years ago, Colin Kaepernick was an unknown commodity, a backup quarterback behind a division champion starter. Now Kaepernick is a true franchise quarterback, with the contract to prove it.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms on a six-year extension through 2020, according to a source. Kaepernick will earn up to $126 million, with $61 million guaranteed. Kaepernick was entering the final year of his rookie contract, which was set to pay him under $1 million. The deal was completed in only one day of negotiations.
Coach Jim Harbaugh has publicly campaigned for Kaepernick to get a new deal this offseason, the first year that he was eligible for a new deal. The team and Kaepernick had previously tabled contract talks while police investigated an April incident involving Kaepernick at a Miami hotel. This deal speaks louder than Harbaugh's public support ever could; the 49ers want Kaepernick being their team leader for the foreseeable future as they move into their brand new Levi's Stadium.
During an offseason where Harbaugh's future with the organization has been in question, Kaepernick's contract provides stability. No matter what happens in the future with Harbaugh, the 49ers have a strong core of Pro Bowl players to build around.
The scary part -- for the league and for San Francisco -- is that Kaepernick remains an unfinished product. He has rare tools with his arm strength and speed. For entire games, he can look like the future of the quarterback position and make analysts fall dangerously in love.
He can also look like a work in progress. 49ers legend Steve Young noted this week on ESPN that Kaepernick needs to improve at going through his progressions and staying in the pocket more. Young believes Kaepernick looks to run too often after his first read goes away.

Kaepernick's desire to be great is one reason the 49ers are so confident he'll be worth all the money. The 49ers have made the Super Bowl and NFC le game the last two years with Kaepernick early in his development. The weapons around Kaepernick have only improved this offseason, and the 49ers figure to lean more on their passing game this year.
Whether Kaepernick turns into a top-five NFL quarterback or if he "only" hangs around as an above-average starter, this was a deal the 49ers had to make. Quarterbacks take up a growing percentage of NFL salary caps, but they are still underpaid for their overall value to the organization. (Just imagine how much Kaepernick would get if he actually made it to free agency.)
The 49ers know what it's like to be searching the NFL wilderness for a quarterback to believe in. They don't have to worry about that for a long time.

Whatever, he's getting better weapons now. Good signing. Would fans rather have checkdown Alex Smith?

Same, plus a little more since he won it all already. Seahawks are gonna be even more screwed since all their guys are young and have to be re-signed.

All the important pieces have already been re-signed; Chancellor, Sherman, Thomas, Bennett, and Baldwin. Wilson and Avril next year and what to do about Lynch. That's about it.

Lynch and Wilson are the most important after Sherman and Thomas. Of course they sign Wilson, but Lynch has to be re-signed too. Plus they drafted a new WR and I'm not sure how long they locked up Harvin for

Both are equally awful, but at least Alice Smith didn't just get paid $60 million in guaranteed money

Seahawks aren't going to worry about Lynch. When he's up for free agency he's going to be a 30 year old running back

49ers also just got their new stadium built, so they're probably getting a little hood rich like they say.

This will be Harvin's tell-tale year in my opinion. If he can stay healthy the whole year (and don't be surprised if he does because winning magically makes you want to continue to play) and produce, then he'll get his. We also got Sydney Rice back and have Baldwin extended for 3 years so WR is set even by the time Paul Richardson is up for a new deal if he proves to be worth the time.

Seahawks aren't going to worry about Lynch. When he's up for free agency he's going to be a 30 year old running back
He'll be 30 and I'm certain he'd take a pay cut to stay within the Emerald City. I don't see a heir apparent in Michel, so this might a RB by committee in the future years.

Wow, so many average QBs getting deals that only elite and proven QBs should have got. I mean what made Kaepernick, Ryan, Cutler or Romo in same financial level as Brees, Rodgers or Brady.

It works like this little people....

You wait and see what happens. I heard all this bull when I was....Russell Wilson is God....so what happened there?

I'm not a fan of Kaepernick, he doesn't have that touch and knows he can motor so doesn't give things time. Not thrilled with the deal but I do understand it.
