Holy crap at the meltdown in this thread

    A) The Cap continues to increase. This deal will look like a bargain in a few seasons
    B) Ownership is paying out of their pocket (guaranteed money) so the base salary remains low
    C) The option was sign Kaep long term or draft a replacement next year
    D) This is the going rate for playoff starting QBs
    E) I was against resigning Kaep this off season but the way the contract is structured, I like it.

as details are leaking it, its looking like a more and more favorable deal for the niners. will have to wait till official numbers are released though

Stafford deserved a good contract. Romo, I guess he puts butts in seats. Which is all Jerry Jones really cares about anyway.

congrats to kaep and niner fans. thats the market for top qb's, it is what it is. if romo and succ ass matt stafford(31 million last year) can get paid and not make the playoffs, why not pay kaep for actually taking his team to the playoffs and a superbowl as a young qb?
    he's a bottom 5 starting qb tbh

    Romo has impressive career numbers.

    Stafford is still a mystery
    - 1 historic season
    - 1 solid season
    - 2 average years

    he's a bottom 5 starting qb tbh
Kaepernick? He's at worst in the 15-20 range.

Holy crap at the meltdown in this thread

    A) The Cap continues to increase. This deal will look like a bargain in a few seasons
And that's a principle reason why the QB market is disturbingly inflated. These guys are making the Ravens look like geniuses for signing Flacco for only $20 Million a year. But when Luck and Wilson (damn, especially Wilson) get $25M/year, Kaep's will indeed look like a bargain.

    B) Ownership is paying out of their pocket (guaranteed money) so the base salary remains low
That's actually a terrible thing. You want high base salaries relative to bonus money. It makes it easier to cut a player. Even if the salary is guaranteed, it makes it easier to trade the player.

    C) The option was sign Kaep long term or draft a replacement next year
Yeah, after the Niners failed to develop a quarterback over the last two years. It's just like the Ravens with Flacco. The QBs are getting inflated value because their teams only have crap behind them.

    D) This is the going rate for playoff starting QBs
See my answer to A). It's only the going rate because teams keep paying that much for them. SanFran had the chance to be the franchise that didn't get caught up in this stupid QB bubble. Instead, we have to hope Seattle can buck the trend.

    E) I was against resigning Kaep this off season but the way the contract is structured, I like it.
Yeah, it's not all that bad in terms of guarantees. I don't see them cutting him any time soon, though, which means he'll probably get enough of the money to mess up the Niners' cap and drop them out of contention.

If the 49ers don't find Gore's replacement & Kaep fails to progress, your forecast could come true in a few years
