+1Here's the thing about Bergdahl and the Jump-to-Conclusions mats: What if his platoon was long on psychopaths and short on leadership?
What if he grew disillusioned with what he saw, didn't trust his leadership, and walked off? Legal? No. Worthy of sympathy? Maybe.
If that were the case, the soldiers in his platoon would have all the more reason to smear him publicly now.
Given other examples, it's not out of the realm of possibility--and more reason to withhold judgment until after an investigation.
I'm not a fan of such speculation, but this story could not be more unbalanced--with so many premature calls of "traitor."

From what analysis I have heard the unit was somewhat poorly managed.
Worthy of a statue? Nah.
But it occurs to me that the worse the right-wing can make this guy out to be, the better an issue it becomes to beat the Democratic president/candidates with.
That right there makes me very hesitant to accept the knee-jerk "traitor" schtick.
The guy has been through , whatever decision he made years ago that set him on this trajectory. Give him the discharge that the evidence says he deserves and let him live a long quiet life.

Unfortunately this thread isn't about the swap in general and is about an admin official calling the platoon psychopaths. The same platoon who lost men looking for a deserter pussy. Stick to the topic and state your opinion.

I think he is a deserter and possibly a traitor but i want him to get a fair sentence based on all the facts which I don't know. And if he did commit treason, it should be life in prison at the least.
If somehow this guy did nothing wrong, this was still a terrible move though. It has nothing to do with hysterical hatred or racism like the left likes to portray. It has everything to do with the illegal and stupid actions taken by our president and/or his administration over and over and over.
Meh, the guy already has spent effectively 5 years in a rather unpleasant prison to the point where his health deteriorated. Sentence enough for anything short of murdering someone, IMO.
I would assign a lot more credibility to people who rant about "illegal things" this president did, if the right-wing had taken Bush to task for the he did, or the thousands of soldiers that got killed because of his administrations rank incompetence in the Iraq occupation. That pisses me off to no end.
One guy walks off his post and the right wing media gets all slobbering mad, but thousands of dead service members gets ignored galls me. Bush should be in jail for the rest of his life. The fact that he is living a comfortable life, while the widows, widowers and children of the dead his incompetence killed struggle to this day....

Bush's incompetence was essentially using vietnam era tactics, administrators that had no ing clue about Iraq or how to run an occupation because they had no plan, further alienating the people they were supposed to help.
The surge was far more than a few extra troops, it was a massive admission that they ed up for years.

Sorry. the casualty rates don't support that assertion. The surge represented a fundamental shift in tactics that did more to save lives than any bomb-proofer hummvee.
Iraq is sure doing well now that Obama got us out of there, aren't they?
It's the same answer as when we were there: Who cares?
The biggest mistake Barry can make is go back there. And he probably will make it.
