But you also need some depth. That way you can sub out someone who had a ty game. Unlike the EPL game, you can rotate players in and out. I made sure I had at least one sub for each position in my rotation... except my goalkeeper. I have one good one and two crappy ones.

The problem with filling the squad with cheap players from teams that probably won't make it to through is replacing them for the later stages. Barring major surpirses, you'll need to replace scrubs worth 1/2/3m with someone worth no less than 4/4.5.
I went in picked my 11 based on my desired formation and filled the rest with terrorists.
You don't want too many terrorists though. The scoring system says it's - 3 for dying in a suicide bombing and -1 for each person taken out. Praising Allah +1.

auto loaded the lineup but not exactly what I want. Now how do I make any changes to the lineup and where do I find the league?

lefty had the same issue and he fixed it by using Internet Explorer. Try doing that.
Go to "Transfers" and click on the red circle with the left pointing arrow to transfer out. Click on the green circle with the right pointing arrow to transfer in. Make sure your budget isn't less than zero otherwise you won't be able to submit your changes. You also need to meet the criteria of 3 goal keepers, 5 forwards, etc.
