Isn't this the guy that joined forces with Drexler, Pippen and Olajuwon?
    Ouch.

He was on the decline big time at that point, 33 years old and after the championships. I think the difference with this one is that Melo still has 4 years on him and some big games left. On top of the fact the big 3 already did the lets get together and win, now to do it again with a fourth would just send a bad message more so

The Heat have an average defence at best and are a ball movement team, so they're going to add one of the worst defenders in the league and a ball stopper? I don't think it makes them better.

Melo would help a lot on offense as Wade looks almost done, but he would not help with their defense, which is their problem against the Spurs. So it doesn't worry me much.

Would be funny if they end up getting eliminated in the first round

He would replace Wade in the starting lineup as Wade adjusts to a 6th man role... I think that's their best shot, here. I doubt Wade agrees to that knowing he could be a starting player on basically every team in the league.

For Melo, it would be the rule.

Cmon, that's not even close to the same thing. Those players were all past their prime. Barkley was 35 or 36, Olajuwon was 36. Pippen was 34 and coming off back surgery on top of that. If those guys had joined up in their late 20's, early 30's then it would be a valid comparison.

Here's the vid OP is talking about
    http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nb...nba/index.html

Isn't this the guy that joined forces with Drexler, Pippen and Olajuwon?
The Starters on NBA TV brought that up to Barkley. Watch it here:
    http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nb...nba/index.html

He basically said they were all at the end of their careers as opposed to being in their primes and wanting to compete against the best.

Let Melo join the ing Heat, these overloaded star teams never work. A big three is already pushing it, four is asking for trouble. One of them will turn diva and ruin the team.

When Barkley went there in 96 he was 33 and Olajuwon was only one year removed from murdering the playoffs.

If this happens and we win the le this year, I wouldn't be surprised if TD retires as a result, tbh.
Yes, because #21 runs from challenges.

exactly. there is a fine line between ring chasing in your last years and colluding peak talent but there is a difference.

Maybe the NBA should define salaries based on PER or something, so that these kind of thing doesn't happen.

I just made an exercise using PER (adjusted by Minutes played) using a $70M salary.

I got the following numbers for Miami and the Spurs:

    Lebron 18
    Bosh 10
    Wade 8
    Chalmers 6
    Allen 5
    Andersen 5
    Others the rest

    Duncan 12
    Leonard 9
    Parker 9
    Manu 9
    Diaw 7
    Green 7
    Tiago 7
    Mills 4
    Belli 3
    Others the remaining
puts the Heat at 52 and Spurs at 67. the talent disparity is glaring

Was well past his prime at that point. In his prime he didn't puss out and want to join forces with Magic, Larry, Jordan. He wanted to beat them. Like a Real Man would.

Meh, I doubt all these guys would throw that much money out the window.
But if they do, let 'em. It would be a nightly soap opera, lots of drama, lots of diva . You think Wade es a lot now? You think LeBron yelling at Mario is fun? Wait till he tears into Melo for doing nothing on defense. They'd still be lacking size underneath, they would be taking a step backwards defensively, they'd probably end up hating each other and blaming each other for the inevitable failure to win a championship.

Go ahead, Pat Riley, make my day.

And that is why everyone loved Jordan. He was the ultimate compe or. in his personal life, but as an athlete and compe or, he would be someone I would want to emulate.
