I agree.
The modern nation of Iraq was drawn up by imperial powers after WW1
It was created to have groups of ethnicities and sects that hated each other. The only reason it didn't disintegrate before now, was due to strongman dictators, willing to kill and torture to keep it tamped down.
The parallels with Yugoslavia are glaringly obvious.
We didn't fight to keep Yugoslavia together, just to keep them from killing each other horribly.
We shouldn't fight to keep "Iraq" together.
it. Let them have their own countries. Sure it will piss off the Turks to have a Kurdistan to their south, but eventually even they will see the benefits.
We need to be focusing our efforts on getting the groups to find out where they think the borders should be.
If ISIS wants to be a haven for Al Qaeda, we will have to them over until the people in the Sunni section figure out how ty a theocracy driven by crazies is.
This is pretty much the next step anyway. I have wondered all along since the 2003 invasion how long it would take for Iraq to go the way of Yugoslavia, so now we are seeing that bear out.
Of course, Iraq will now just be an Iranian puppet...it was headed that way anyway after we pulled out...
Saddam was the bulwark against Teheran. We removed it.
there won't be an Iraq.
there will be a Shiitestan allied with Iran and Syria and Hamas, Kurd Oil Kuntry, and Sunni Beach allied with Saudi Arabia.
There will be blood.
Didn't the Kurds already de facto secede?
yeah, but nobody's recognized them, afaik
