The LA Daily News reports that the Lakers "would consider" drafting center Joel Embiidfollowing his foot surgery Friday morning if they are given information on his surgery and prognosis to ease fears about his long-term health.
The Lakers would consider selecting Embiid should he become available, according to a person familiar with the Lakers' thinking. But such an idea would hinge on Embiid's recovery.
The Lakers are mindful there would be risk in selecting Embiid considering his recent back injury and his current foot fracture. But they are also aware of Embiid's upside with various draft experts likening him to Hall of Famer center Hakeem Olajuwon. It is unclear what information in Embiid's medical report and progress the Lakers would need to see that would make them feel comfortable picking Embiid assuming he stays undrafted before the seventh pick.

Meh, taking him at 7 is worth the risk. He was the consensus #1 just a week ago. Good luck getting him to contribute during Kobe's career though.

Drafting an injury prone 7 fter with foot (Yao) and back problems is asking for trouble.

I just don't see Embiid not being done. An athlete having a stress fracture is like a building having a cracking foundation. His bones literally can't hold up to the stress of playing basketball. That's never going to change.

Nope. But I learned a bit about stress fractures when James Anderson had his injury a few years back. timvp also posted a list then of all NBA players who had had stress fractures, and each of them was either completely done afterwards or a shadow of their former selves.

At spurfans hoping the Lakers don't get Embiid and making up all this bs about him never being able to comeback from this injury. God-Embiid has a chance to be as good as God-Shaq and maybe even better. We all know spurfans fear the potential of a God-Embid combo.

we definitely wouldn't fear a god who's 36yr old with a broken knee though, whoever his partner is.

With the Lakers having the 7th pick, picking him up there is a great gamble without much of a downside. Picking him in the top 3 would be risky, but down that low the Lakers don't have much to lose to give it a shot. His injury will heal.

I only have 1 god and that is Kobe. I have great religion which is Koballah. Its an awesome religion in which I worship and pay homage to Kobe who is god. One of the advantages of the Koballah faith is that by worshiping Kobe you become a more confident person and it carries over to all aspects of life. My mission in life is to convert everybody to Koballah.

While you're definitely right about this kind of injury, didn't Blake Griffin suffer the same? I may be wrong, but guess there are always exceptions.
