Kobe isn't without a dominant frontcourt. There is no comparison.

This sums up how I feel about Kobe. I never feared Kobe whenever the Spurs played the Lakers but I did fear Shaq, Gasol-Bynum-Odom. The spurs owned Kobe in the regular season from '04-'07 before the Gasol trade. During that 3 year period the Lakers were easy to beat you never had to worry about Kobe since he wasn't a threat just a guy who could score tons of points. With Kobe from 2011 to 2013 the Lakers became easy for the spurs to beat again despite having Kobe playing at a high level mainly due to the decline of Gasol. Kobe without the best big in the league aka Shaq or the best frontline is not a dominant player that can influence games. He is a great scorer and nothing else.

I'd rather miss the playoffs than have to be escorted to the trophy case and forced to give one back. And if you had your druthers you'd choose the former as well.

While losing in that manner certainly stings more, there is no denying that missing the postseason altogether is a more pathetic performance
