I recall Melo and Lebron sucked hard along with Iverson chucking up as usual..
Unfortunately, bronze medal in Olympics is the only dirty spot on Pop/Duncan's impeccable resume.
The way Argentina beat America really reminded me of Spurs vs Heat 2014 (young LeBron and Wade! They would team up with Chris Bosh and lose to Greece in World Championship two years later).
It taught Pop a different way to play the game and paved the way for Pop's transition from dump-it-to-Duncan to more screens and cuts in 2005-2007, and eventually it became the i-taka passing game of today. Pop also watched Argentina beating America in 2002 but this time he had Duncan on his team and the loss struck him much harder.

Man, I forget sometimes just how good Manu was back in the day...
Argentina was the better team
If what you say is true, then we should be happy this game happened. It inspired Pop and Duncan, aided in the evolution of NBA basketball, and culminated in championship #5, one of the most glorious les in history.
A great player is defined by that they do in the NBA and that is all.. The Olympics is a nice little side show but not meaningful in terms of evaluating any kind of legacy.. Had Duncan won a Gold Medal it does not change it for the better either.
Nice try. But Duncan is a top 10 player of all time. Arguably GOAT status. Olympic basketball.

At the time beating full NBA team was a big deal for the opponent and huge embrassment for the American. I have Duncan as top 5 goat but this was definitely one of the few times he couldn't carry his team to a win.
End thread
Duncan barely got to see the floor in those games also Marion for being a dumbass and biting on that three
Convincing rebuttal..
The US team that year was all isoball with AI, rookie Melo, rookie Lebron. Not even prime Duncan can overcome a ty "all star game" system against a legit team like Argentina.
Yet, Duncan was balling in that olympics in much the same way that Lebron was balling the finals. Clearly the best player on the floor hampered by a weak supporting cast against a true team.
Which is why when I watched this I really thought it was exactly how Spurs beat Thunder/Heat this year.
I just wish Duncan went to Beijing or London and scored an Olympic gold medal. It is still one of the better awards for any athlete to represent his country. Same reason world cup soccer is considered the ultimate trophy for a soccer athlete.
LOL at amerifats embarassed of losing at their own sport and saying Olympics doesn't count... LOL at losing 02,04,06 back to back, getting embarassed tactically, Europe changing the way their own sport is played and NBA copy catting Euroball
LOl at robdiaz, fat mexican
LOL at US
Nice try, got.
Duncan fouled out by half time each game.
Feel free to post Manu's MVP pics.
