This statement right here is basically why he won it.
Eh, I'll take it to my grave that Manu would have won (and deserved) that 2005 Finals MVP had he not been injured in Game 3. The entire team sucked in Detroit except for Robert Horry in the last 21 minutes of regulation & OT in Game 5. Let's also not forget that if Bob misses that shot, the Spurs would have only just won their 4th le in 2014 and we're still talking about how Tim Duncan's 7 bricks at the free throw line in Game 5 cost the Spurs a le.
This statement right here is basically why he won it.
Invariably when you're singling out one player out for his contributions, you're excluding other players that were fundamental to that contribution. But it seems empirical that Manu was the difference-maker in that series, even though Tim was (and always has been) the anchor. Manu was the player who made two well-matched teams into one slightly better-equipped team edging away from a slightly inferior team.
The Pistons figured out how to contain Manu for game 7, Pop had to switch the offense to go trough Duncan which was very effective and won the 'ship. The only answer Larry Brown found for that was doubling. The finals MVP could have gone to any of the two, it was a very close call.
The '86 "C"s: Walton (77), DJ (79), Bird (84, 86).
Manu played better overall in the playoffs, but cooled off some by the Finals. Whoever played better in game 7 would get the fmvp and it was Tim. No robbery.
Not or as dead as Manu will be next year after playing all year long. What a clown.
Duncan diving for the loose ball in Game 7 edged it...
Could have been 5.
Manu in 2005 and Green in 2013 if he had a good Game 6
Had we not drafted Manu, I seriously doubt we would have won 5 les. He's worth every penny he's made.
Kareem in 1985, Magic in 1987 and James Worthy in 1988. To have the Spurs Big 3 line up with the Showtime Lakers of the 1980s is an honor indeed.

Nah... arguably 2005 was his, but I had not problem with Timmy getting it. I also think both Tony and Kawhi earned theirs.
The Spurs know what Gino brings to the team, and have rewarded him accordingly. That's all you can ask for, tbh
FIFY.
Fail.
Wish I could find the one from OKC a couple years ago in the POs. Dude didn't even make it to the rim.![]()

all those vids you posted came in wins. great job bud
Duncan should have won the finals MVP in '13.
With the way Game 6 and 7 actually went. Yes sure.
But I'm saying if Green had a huge game 6 with 6 or 7 threes in the night and led the spurs in scoring with the spurs winning the game, he probably would have been named FMVP
The way he was shooting early in the finals, it was really possible
Making his misses all the more pathetic. Game over, sucker.
makes them all the more insignificant
It's funny because posters on here are acting like Manu even cares about the individual accolades. The guy knows he is a champion. An NBA champion, Olympic champion, and he knows that the Spurs know how important he is. Just like Tim didn't give a damn about the records he broke this past run because to him the only important thing about those records is the company of players he is now put in, but the record itself doesn't mean anything to him. Fans always have a fave player but to say Manu deserved it more than Tim or Tim didn't do enough to earn a Finals MVP award. No one really cares on the Spurs team who wins an award. I didn't see Manu, Tim, or TP pouting when Kawhi got his trophy because these guys know they are the foundation for the Spurs.
