I youth basketball coach I know is visiting the youth soccer games in our area...then speeking to kids that don't make it off the bench.

Some of them became very good basketball players.

Maybe some soccer coaches in the US should do it the other way around.

Austin Daye might be good at heading! While Nando looks like a midfielder.

Ugh. There are a lot of things USA needs to improve on, but even with the talent they currently have, if they had the mentality that they can play with anyone it would go a long way. They only play the brand of soccer that they are capable of and that coach wants when they are down and forced to attack.

They are better than they give themselves credit for and until they are willing to play to win, vs not get beat, it will be hard to break through barriers on a stage such as the WC.

Just like I said to MEX fans, it's hard in the moment not to be disappointed, but objectively, USA had a very productive tourney and it was great for US Soccer.

USA needs more black guys...it's infuriating to watch them get out run and out muscled because of their lack of athleticism.

yeah, I thought that was a step forward. Dempsey probably will be too old for the next cup. They need to find a solid striker with killer mentality.

Was Howard v. Belgium for 105 minutes. That said, US still had a shot to steal it multiple times and couldn't get it done.

    Absolutely agree.

Uggh, Quote fail. Agree with the fact that this tourney was huge for US Soccer and was a great showing from this team.

USA just doesn't have enough individual quality. They don't have a game changer. The team's best players are Dempsey and Howard both will be too old at the next WC.

to all those rookies that say "we need more black players" just look at Ghana and Nigeria. s got loads of those and real good caliber playing in the best clubs. And yet they still fail to go anywhere.

futbol played as a team sport can overcome the physical teams. Same thing with basketball and the way Spurs play.

What USA needs urgently is "high FB IQ" players. They basically have none.

What they need is to keep improving the game in grassroots, expanding the pool of kids playing football and keep a nationwide setup detecting talent and developing it. Some of the best players can be offered to train for periods of time in European/South American academies, if they are good they'll stay. And always detect those players that look like future USMNT talent to make them play together in the U-17 and U-20 USNT. They should keep the MLS running by all means, maybe give a twist and make it a league like most of the rest of football, not every sport should be played in the Conferences+Regular Season+Playoffs format. They could add a knock-out format Cup to keep the experience in that format and also give gametime to reserves/youth players. While keeping the CONCACAF Champions League spot is fine, they should push for at least an entry to the Libertadores, where you get to play Brazilian, Argentinian and most of the top clubs in South America, while earning valuable match experience in diplomatic incidents and brawls .

furthermore what the US needs is to win or at least get 2nd place in a couple under 17 and under 20 World Cups.

you can't expect to win a vet World Cup or even advance far when the best you have done is one 4th place ever in the juniors

Americans will have a rude awakening when they realize Global Soccer isn't a linear line. There are ups & downs. Next World Cup is in Russia...far away from North America. Howard & Dempsey will decline. Better hope Klinsmann returns.
