Hopefully all this talk about him wanting to play is just a way of not disappointing the Argentine fans and he's planning to take the summer off.
That's kind of what I've been hoping.

Can Argentina off already and leave Manu alone? Having a 37 year old play off-season basketball is bad enough but to force the issue while he's still recovering from an injury is just shameful. Argentina's basketball federation should be ing embarrassed - still relying on a guy near retirement to carry that corpse of a team.

This is a truth nuke. I'm also kind of disappointed in Manu even saying that he'll try to give it a go. I understand the man loves his country and his fans but he also owes a lot to the Spurs. He brings in revenue with his huge fanbase but the Spurs have also taken care of him. Sure, he may of been underpaid but he has always been injury prone. Just hope he gets healthy and dedicates himself to the Spurs at least one final time.

Im optimista that if he plays we trade
I actually see disappointment in your future if he decides to play.

Can Argentina off already and leave Manu alone?
I don't think ARG has a say on the decision. They will wait for him, but it's gonna be his call.

So is what you wrote. Frankly, he is so injury prone he prob can't take a wizz without spraining his nutsack.

I always found both and decision and timing of the announcement, that he was going to play in the World Cup, su ious. I'd imagine this was known before he made the announcement, but he announced he'd play in order quell the inevitable backlash he'd have received in Argentina for not playing.

I considered that, too. Time will tell.

I suspect if there's no improvements in the next week or so, he'll go under the scalpel and that will be that.

I'll post any news from down south as they come out.

Of course it is going to be his call. Some posters here have trashed other team members so relentlessly for playing for their national teams that they have to try to assert that a decision to do just that is being forced on Manu.

Manu has well and truly earned the right to make this decision for himself, whatever it is.

I just happen to hope, selfishly, that he decides not to risk playing until next season for the Spurs.

But given the nature of a stress fracture, it seems to me that Coach needs to be even more careful with his minutes next year because his body really doesn't seem to handle too much unrelieved work without serious consequences.

I still say he will be at the Summer games but...as a towel-waiver on the bench.

Manu is nuts. He thrives on walking the thin line. If he's not in too much pain he'll play.

Argie news report that he's looking for an alternative to surgery, which is what would force him to be out two months. Will update if I read anything else from there.
    2008 again?

I'm on the record I rather he doesn't play, but that's an academic discussion at this point. I already translated a writeup he made on how he feels and his reasons for playing (before the injury). Everybody will have their own opinion (including me), and that's fine, even though it doesn't really matter.

He's actually been surprisingly healthy the last two of seasons. IIRC, he missed less games than Kawhi in both seasons. But he's older. He will take longer to heal, and certain injuries now could easily spell the end for him.

I'm thrilled and grateful for what he gave us last season. He was instrumental throughout the playoffs. Hope he has one more season in him, we can always use that kind of lift.

Manu, Messi would play for Argentina on a wheel-chair! Now that we are not winning the football WC I had all my hopes we would win the basketball WC... I'm in tears man!

    .

I agree with you. I would add, however, that some of the reason that he has been more durable over the last two years has been the extent to which Pop has managed his minutes and b2b games. My only point was that, even without playing last summer, going through the longest season possible last season, followed by a virtually longest possible season this year, he now has a (nother) stress fracture. That may be entirely coincidental, but it may also indicate that his minutes will have to be monitored and maybe even curtailed even more by the Coach this year than has been the case for the last two years. And that will be true even if he doesn't play for the NT this summer, imo.

Quite straightforward: it's not truth until Woj has reported it.
didn't woj erroneously reported jefferson's amnesty?

    woj is not really perfect

Bad news for Manu, great news for Spurs fans. The guy needs rest!

Not sure he could sway a doctor's ethics, but it does make sense from the team's perspective.

No doubt. The Spurs also sent a physical trainer with him last summer and changed his diet and workouts. Hopefully they can apply some more of that magic for next season.

He would have played for ARG...but now cannot due to injury......Manu remains a national hero and preserves himself to go for a repeat. I'll say genius at work!
