Maybe, but I don't think so.
Mills is young and his injury should not affect him going forward.
If Mills publicly criticizes the Spurs' FO right after the payoff (like Kobe did), I'll buy the comparison.
He earned it.

There's some truth in there, it's a nice gesture in that situation but could bite them in the ass, it certainly not a win now move.
The Spurs just got a of a discount, or the injury scared away other teams; maybe both. Either way, with as much $$ available out there this summer as there is this is a great signing by SA.
That's great. Glad to have him back. Hope it's 3 yrs 9 mil. As for his injury, better now than later, plus we can Give CoJo more minutes as a backup to Paker and even a few more starts. only makes him better and the team stronger.
CoJo has come along real nice. He has to take advantage of this opportunity to step up and display his talent so we can count on him down the road.
SHOOTING FOR SIX.![]()
Perfect contract for a perfect teammate
Yeah, $12 million for Mills is pretty ing great, especially when Meeks is getting $19 million. 1/16th of the salary cap for a guy with an 18.8 PER who hit some of the biggest shots in franchise history? Complete ing bargain. If he could do what he did with his shoulder in the shape in what it was in, I have no doubts he will regain his form after surgery and rehab.
Good deal. Mills can be out as far as March and torn rotator cuffs usually causes a lingering decrease in strength. I don't know if Mills will be ready to contribute in the playoffs. But Mills earned the money. He opted in last year when he probably could have doubled or tripled his $1 million salary.
Hopefully it's front loaded like Splitter's contract. This is beginning to look like Duncan and Ginobili's last year. And with Leonard's extension looming, the Spurs need to preserve some cap space for the future.
Dont believe I would see the day....
Very excited about this, but a bit bummed that he couldn't cash it in a bit more at a larger frnachise to get more popularity, but 12 mill 3 years is not too bad at all.
Way too high. 3/11 sounds right.
AFAIK, the $12m could break in many ways... could easily also be $3m/$4m/$5m... which would allow the Spurs to have some extra money to re-sign Diaw if that deal gets sticky
Is this not the figure?
Spurs have unlimited money to sign Boris essentially , I don't see how that really comes into play. I only think the contract matters in this regard if the Spurs want cap space (although, they could just wait to sign Patty until they use cap space and it wouldn't matter then).
Great observation and since there isn't a deal in place til July 11 they can contact Diaw and figure out what he wants and then make the numbers fit. Diaw seems reasonable though, don't think he'll hold SA hostage and they won't let him. 3/18-20 sounds about right.
Welcome back, Patty!
Sucks that he's hurt but over the past few years he's become one of my favorite spurs of all time. I just love this guys heart and enthusiasm. I even have more respect for him now hearing how he played through this injury for the whole entire year.
If they go over the cap, they can't use the MLE though, right?
No they can. Pretty much regardless of what they sign Boris & Patty for, the MLE is in play.
I thought there was an actual reason for them to stay under the cap.... guess not?
Nope. Only real concern is Luxury Tax (for financial purposes) and the apron (for punitive purposes). Spurs won't be anywhere close to that even if Boris gets a nice raise. Especially with Patty's contract.
Great deal for the spurs and I'm really happy for Mills.![]()
Got it. Thanks
