No. The article says that BEFORE he gets an opinion in Argentina that could be biased, he wanted a neutral one too.
Thanks. I didn't want you to translate the whole article, just wanted to know if there was anything worth mentioning, and I think you have mentioned it.
So he still wants to play for Argentina no matter what? Even if the second opinion he gets from a specialist says that he shouldn't?
No. The article says that BEFORE he gets an opinion in Argentina that could be biased, he wanted a neutral one too.
Does your incessant hate and smack talk about Manu ever end?
So ungrateful...he is not an indentured servant to the Spurs, he is just being loyal to his country of course you wouldn't understand that ..
I've translated what I think are the main points in that last article:
Saludos.Manu wants to retire from the national team in Spain and will do everything in his power to play.
San Antonio leaked Manu's injury to two media oulets close to the franchise: the Yahoo Sports website and the San Antonio Express News newspaper. It's not a coincidence that both headlined o mentioned in their report's first lines that "probably" Manu's presence in the World Cup "is at stake". And so R.C. Bufford, the Spurs General Manager, read what he wanted to read from the moment the diagnosis was leaked.
Meticulous as he is, he (Manu) was surprised by the leak of information he was going to comment on tomorrow in Argentina. Facing this fact, he pulled some strings and went ahead without waiting for anybody. [...] What did Manu do? He sent images of the microfracture to a Chicago specialist asking for a second opinion.
What did the specialist say? She said the injury is not new but it cannot get worse, it can only get better. That's why he tweeted yesterday at 20:15: "The injury is real but my participation in the World Cup depends on my improvement in the coming 20+ days. I'm still optimistic". Whith this message, Manu will meet today with Bufford and Gregg Popovich.
He (Manu) will remember them that he's been resting for two and a half weeks, since he won in the NBA in June 15th. And he will tell them that there's still three weeks until the NT training camp starts, a time in which he will be resting as well. And that he will go to that training camp.
The Spurs will put pressure on him by remembering him of 2008, when his ankle went out in the semifinals game of the Beijing Olympics. [...] but Manu knows he has an winning card: he played in the playoffs and in the NBA finals with this microfracture. If the franchise and he himself now know of its existence, it is only because he underwent rutine end of season tests. He is not in pain.
Ugh don't play with it anymore Manu damn
Thank you very much for the translation. It sounds as though he might be tad pissed with Spurs' organization for leaking it.
Contractually, he is within his rights to do anything, and both he and the Spurs FO know that. My guess? He will play some.
He should be.
Spurs pay the bills. Just as Manu hasn't "done anything wrong" by playing and continuing to play with the NT contractually, Spurs have done nothing wrong by reporting on the injury. It's all fair game and they each understand each other's feelings on the matter.
Well... Argentina NT coach is an asshole anyway he wants Manu to play even if he is in a coma.
Medical information is private. Leaking that information is unambiguously wrong.
I disagree. Medical information is reported on all the time. In every sport. It comes out during the season, during the draft, during free agency - basically all the time.
Spurs had nothing to gain by "leaking" it - Manu will do what he wants, he's not a FA so they weren't lowering his value/using dirty tactics and fans support Manu basically no matter what - even when it felt selfish of him to wear himself out with the NT play.
When it is appropriate to release medical information, teams issue a press release that is posted on the team's website. If it was the appropriate time to release this information about Manu, we would have seen it on spurs.com.
They leaked private information. That's wrong.
If you believe that - what is the motive? Why would the Spurs who tend to handle themselves better than any organization do that? What do they have to gain?
The motive is irrelevant. Leaking the information was wrong whatever the motive may have been.
As to what they have to gain, that would appear to be obvious.
Dunno if it's been mentioned already, but he'll have a press conference tomorrow morning upon arrival in Argentina.
I mentioned it on the last page. 7AM central time according to Mike Monroe.
Manu is taking the trophy with him to Argentina. I'm sure it will be at the presser. I don't think he is giving up 100%
on the world games.
I have a hard time believing that an organization as classy as the Spurs would deliberately leak medical information just to keep Manu from playing in international compe ion. Whoever wrote that article was probably just speculating or trying to sound dramatic.
Yes, awesome news. Hope he feels better but at least he misses FIBA. Rest up ol' sport! We got a repeat to prepare
They eh have airports in the Third World? Are they paved?
Nope. I pray it never ends. Takes a lot of effort to offset the homer s around here.........
Much ado about nothing.
Yet the Argentine press is making a huge big deal about the Spurs leaking the information.
Again, it is much ado about nothing IMHO.
He really should rest that leg.
