They wouldn't. They wouldn't help him with a SnT deal either.
When things are bad, people usually turn to the good things in the past. That's when know the current state of affairs is horrible.
Melo and Kobe, just the thought.
They wouldn't. They wouldn't help him with a SnT deal either.
Are you a broken record or something?
That is really quite the intelligent post.
Not.

Key part is like you said baseball WAS more popular in early 80's I was in LA in 88 yes Gibson's homer and Hershiser's streak was amazing but the repeat was far bigger went to both parades and celebrations were huge but the repeat was far bigger. Because the Lakers were greater Dodgers had what two hofers? The Lakers had 3 plus West as GM and Riles as coach. His next year we gonna do it again . . Was ingenious.
If Dodgers win first le in decades of course it will be excitement in the city but Lakers still mean more. Dodgers certainly have the #2 spot though.
Lol at the non la resident s trying to chime in st least you have lived there.
Exactly. I believe midnightpulp thinks differently though.![]()
?
When people blast Rose they compare him to Iverson
It is much harder to get into the Hall of Fame in baseball than basketball. Also, as a feat there is no question that it is bigger to 3-peat. But for a single sports moment it doesn't get any bigger or better than Gibson's home run.
Why so salty about los Doyers, Gilberto?![]()
Los Angeles sports fans are frontrunners. If the Dodgers win the WS while the Lakers are still floundering, I don't see how they don't overtake the Lakers as "LA's team," especially with the rising popularity of Puig and Kershaw. Right now, the Dodgers are the much more compelling franchise. We might be looking at the potential GOAT left-handed pitcher here. Long way to go to catch Koufax, but Kershaw is just superhuman at the moment, putting in the 2nd most dominant pitching performance ever.
I don't see why any LA sports fan who likes both teams would prefer to watch the Lakers and their mess over the Dodgers.
That said, I'm not sure how you quantify popularity. Maybe if the Dodgers make the WS, we can compare the Southern California ratings to when the Lakers were last in the Finals or something.
Not denying that. Just saying that LA is a star loving city part of why they chasing Melo. That Dodgers team was amazing but lacked star power.
People are far less impressed by a Basketball le than Baseball.
Basketball: Get Top player = Win
Baseball: Build the defense & pitching. Secure a solid bullpen. Round up the batting order. Have a knowledgeable manager. Get some breaks. Survive the grueling regular season. Handle the pressure filled Playoffs.
Yep. Paper champions aren't even guaranteed to make the playoffs in baseball. Especially in 1988, when only 4 teams would make the post-season.
Orel and Gibby were pretty big. Fernando was huge, just as big as Magic in the early and mid-80s, but by 88, he was past his prime already, injured, and not a draw anymore. Damn screwball cut his prime short.
According to a person familiar with the situation, Anthony felt as if he got mixed signals from the New York Knicks during his meeting with the team on Thursday. While Anthony and his camp were told that he could have a maximum contract if he wanted it, a source said, team president Phil Jackson continued to preach the virtues of taking less than the maximum—a message that left Anthony questioning whether the max offer was sincere.
good ol' Phil![]()
I disagree with the path Baseball has chosen
Pre-Strike: 4 playoff teams (Okay a little extreme)
Post-Strike: 8 playoff teams (Ideal)
2012+: 10 total with 6 division & 4 wild cards
Astonishing for a sport in modern times to go from 4 to 10 playoff teams. You could argue the final month of the season is now more interesting than ever but what about the other 8 months? I don't even bother with the 1st Half of the season these days considering the rosters will drastically change by October.
Wild Card is beyond silly. 1 game to get into the real playoffs?
Reeks of a cheap ratings grab.
Props on calling it right. So he'll end up playing for less then.
You can compare whatever the he'll you want. Not only are the Lakers bigger locally but also nationally. Look how much the Clips and Dodgers sold for yet the Lakers value is estimated at more by quite a bit. Local tv deals are more lucrative. More merchandise sales local and national and worldwide. Don't see how this is a debate if you live in the city or even just read a Forbes or WSJ. Lakers are also far more popular and hated get more national TV games even when we suck. Lakers sucked in the 90s and kings were great didn't change .
My bad Dodgers are worth more ...But I stand by the rest. Pretty smart investment by Magic btw. My Freaking Cowboys are worth so much money more than Dodgers and we have sucked for years
As a Laker hater, obviously I hope they get Carmelo, it would essentially kill any chance of contending for the next 5-6 years, tbh..
As an NBA fan, I hope they don't do it, it would be a train wreck and a sad move that wouldn't even put them in the top 8 in the West..hate seeing such stupid front offices, tbh..
On this we agree.
He needs to pick a team already. Can't have him AND LeBron both holding up everyone's signings.
