lol
Totally agree. We're basically bringing back the team that nearly won back-to-back championships. And we won in convincing fashion last year. Acquiring Gasol is a major addition that adds another wrinkle. Plus hes a huge boost in preserving Tim during the regular season.
If nothing else, it keeps him off a potential compe or. And that might be the biggest advantage of signing him.
Good news, now the Spurs can spend that full MLE without any worry. And they better do it. There is no excuse now not to pursue a full MLE player. The Spurs can't stay the same and still expect to repeat. The Thunder and Mavs (especially if they get Deng) look to be the greatest threats. Have to stay one step ahead of them.
Other than OKC, I would put LAC and Hou ahead of Mavs.

Portland, Golden State and Dallas maybe?
Love how the 3rd year is partially guaranteed for only $3 million of his $7 million owed in '16-'17. Very easy to move if necessary.
The actually salary is fairly irrelevant considering the Spurs weren't going to be near the luxury tax and should still have plenty to spend next off season to retool.
Memphis is probably still better Dallas at the moment as well.
And the core is back together!
Now just need to add one intriguing new piece, and let's get 2014-2015 started!
the Championship rotation is all back, and we have the fascination of watching KA try to SPEED THE UP!
wow that is damn cheap compared to other FA deals so far. he was finals co-MVP as far as I'm concerned.
this.
great news with Diaw. Spurs taking care of their own.![]()
Sure we can. Who is better?
A bit of an overpay for a 32yo, but we HAD to keep him and the money is irrelevant given that we couldn't have done anything better with it. Very glad to have him back!![]()
A year ago people were saying that the Spurs couldn't stay the same and expect to get back to the Finals. They were wrong.
Yep. I was one of the people who believed the Spurs were good enough to make it back. I think they are good enough again. But I'll be annoyed if they waste their MLE on another Ayres.
Great deal for both Diaw and the front office! Anybody who thinks he was overpaid is living in some type of fantasy land that has nothing to do with the existing NBA market. Just because he most likely wouldn't have the success he has with the Spurs in a different system with a different coach has nothing to do with how contracts are given. There are so many bad contracts throughout the league without much thought how that player is going to fit in one's system. I don't even think most GMs were even worried about the Bobcat year or his weight. Minnesota overpaid for J.J. Barea after Dallas won a championship. I'm still not sure why they signed him - except their GM was a dumb . The Clippers just signed Farmar 'cause they screwed up on the Darren Collison negotiations. Farmar isn't getting much, but that seemed like a panic move.
You won't be the only one.
Everybody is coming back and we'll probably be able to just play all the important people about 27 minutes and still win 50+ because the bench is so re ed. I think that Cotton dude looks like a real scorer so if we are really adding him that's fantastic.
Guys, the league will be WEAKER next year...
As a whole, I agree - but if Gasol goes to OKC and/or Bosh goes to Houston, two of our biggest road blocks in the West will be even stronger.
They didn't stay the same.
Yeah, they replaced Neal and Blair with Belinelli and Ayres.
Do you think that Patty gets the opportunities that he did if Neal was still on the team?
