They why even bother showing him as muscular? It confuses the point. If the only reason he is strong is because he is a half god, they should have cast someone like Mark Ruffalo or Paul Newman.
I'm only pointing out you don't need to find the strongest looking out there.
Kevin Sorbo was strong, but not huge. He played a good Hercules in my opinion.
I hear you. I hadn't thought about it much but just the fact they always portray him as muscular causes people to believe that's where his strength is from.
Someone with a lot of physical activity will have a toned body. That's all they need.
If his strength is from the gods and not muscles, then Hercules would probably not be that toned at all unless the Gods made him use his own strength to it's fullest and then add whatever extra he needed. If he's not having to use his own muscle at all, he'd likely look atrophied.
