WC berths were handed out as follows:
    Europe: 13
    America: 10
    Africa: 5
    Asia: 4

Entering the knock out round, teams qualified:
    America: 8
    Europe: 6
    Africa: 2

Basically, none of Asia made it, about 50% of Africa and Europe made it, and 80% of America did.

Furthermore, this created a ridiculous key (the only key I might add), that included 4 American teams that had to eliminate themselves.

I don't really care whether the berths come out of Asia, Africa or Europe, or a combo but it's clear America is way too talented to get screwed over like this.

Make it 14 Europe and 14 America and 3 Africa and Japan.

The Africans have inferior football than the Americans and the Europeans but they have a lot of players who have made it in the big club leages so they deserve some credit.

Meanwhile, nobody wants to see Germany face China in the group or knock-out stages, and neither will that be possible because the Asians just suck in football.

It's their home soil. Let's see how they perform in Russia. Last time in Europe (2006) only 4 American teams made the Knockout Stage & Argentina/Brazil were the only 2 teams to reach (and lose) in Quarter-Finals

As well as America has performed the past 2 World Cups.....only 2 teams are le contenders.

Asia (Australia included) & African getting combined 8-9 spots, essentially 1/3 of the Tournament is BS.

Then adjust the berths depending where the WC is being played...

In this World Cup, you had one key with 2 America vs America games, and another key with 2 Europe vs Africa games... ridiculous. Even after that, you ended up with 4 teams from Europe and 4 teams from America.

I don't have a problem with Europe keeping their 13 berths, but America should be getting 13 too, at the very least.

America is already getting too many teams, all the other continents have a lot more countries for limited spots...

Diversity is good, who cares if Venezuela or whatever scrub team doesn't make it...

America gets too many slots imho. Only 4 American teams deserve to be perennial participators in the WC (Brazil, Argentina, US and Mexico), leaving the other 2 for the rest countries to compete for. Europe on the other hand is too talented and even some unqualified countries would've made the 1/4 finals in Brazil this year (like Sweden ), tbh.

off about reducing other region's spots. This is the World Cup - the Euro teams can choke away in the group stage of the Euro Cup.

Yeah, this is the World Cup not some made Euro Cup. Give each region a chance to send a team...eventually a team will break through. They may not win it all but it would be more exciting than seeing the same ing teams in the semis.

ty soccer is exciting? Cameroon players fighting each other & Suarez biting opponents is good for Football?

You wouldn't like the end result. It would be something to the tune of

    32 Teams
    6 South America
    3 Africa
    2 Latin America
    0 Oceania
    21 UEFA

Really? Just look this year: over-reliance of representation from the traditionally 'powerful' Euro countries (Germany, Holland, France), choking of other Euro 'powers' (England, Italy, Spain, Portugal?) and Euro-fodder that rarely make it past the group stage (Eastern European countries, Scandinavia).

Let's see how things play out in Russia. You think Latin America & half of South America will do anything?

2006 in Europe only 4 American teams made the Knockout Stage & only 2 Brazil/Argentina made and lost in the Quarterfinals. 6 of 8 QF's were Euro

Italy, Spain & Portugal each finished 3rd in their groups. Portugal & Spain done in by the disastrous goal differentials by fellow Europeans.

    Last Place Teams
    4 - Oceania
    2 - Africa1 - Europe
    1 - America

Teams like Italy, Russia, Portugal, Bosnia, Croatia & Spain will get the home field advantage in 2018 and reach the Knockout. That's how things go

    And in 2010...

6 Euro teams in the Round of 16. 5 of the teams were the traditional Euro 'powers' plus Slovakia (at expense of a meltdown of the defending champs). Despite all you say about the 'hard qualification' for Euro...only the usual Euro teams make noise in the WC.

And if your argument is that Euro nations only do good when they host...more of a reason to reduce their spots.

Even if you wanted to take away UEFA spots, there are no quality teams in the other regions to replace them with. Jamaica? China?

UEFA still has Sweden, Ukraine, Turkey, Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Finland, Serbia, Bulgaria etc waiting in the Wings. Europe is ever changing geopolitically, while the other regions remain stagnant. Little evolution in terms of Football. Teams like Bosnia, Slovakia & Serbia didn't even exist in recent history

African teams with their 5 spots have made more noise than all of the Scandinavian and Slavic countries you mentioned.

Let's look which teams you mentioned made it to the KO stage:
2002 - Sweden (lost to Senegal R16), Denmark (out R16); Senegal (out QFs)
2006 - None (Czech, ranked 2 in world got spanked by Ghana; Sweden, Serbia, Croatia, Ukraine all out); Ghana (out R16)
2010 - Ukraine (out R16); Ghana (out QFs)
2014 - None (Bosnia, Russia, Croatia all fail); Algeria and Nigeria (out R16)

Lots of fail on that list tbh

Finishing last in groups is making noise?

Your post is pointless because many of those teams haven't qualified out of the ridiculously difficult UEFA. For example Netherlands in 2002.

Furthermore who did 2002 Denmark & 2010 Slovakia lose to? European teams. We beat each other up

Bottomline: If South or Latin America are to gain spots, it will come out of Africa/Asia's pocket. Otherwise Europe will leave the World Cup & no one will watch

My post was the opposite of pointless - the countries YOU claim made it out of the 'ridiculous difficult' UEFA all failed miserably in the ACTUAL World Cup
In my post, the same teams you talked up also lost to African teams (2006 Czech, 2006 Sweden, 2010 Serbia, 2014 Bosnia)

If UEFA is so difficult...why do the non-traditional powers always stink it up?....

If we even reduced the spots to 10 for Europe...the usual suspects would still advance. Those other scrub Euro teams wouldn't make it out.

The "European scrubs" would still finish ahead of the best teams from Africa & Asia. And on par with the better teams from America
