I think Bazemore would be good here. He'd instantly be our third best perimeter defender behind Kawhi and Green and he isn't a liability offensively. This would likely push Cotton out and I would much rather have Bazemore than Cotton. People will be upset because they actually think we can land Gasol, but that isn't happening. If Bazemore is willing to come here and earn his minutes on a stacked roster I am all for it. This also shows that RC and Pop realize the liability Belinelli is defensively.

Sure, I'd rather have another big and unload Ayres but I'm not sure how realistic that is and I don't see many bigs out there remaining that would be a good fit.

I'm interested to know what positions Bazemore can check. Is it 1-3 or only 1s and 2s? Either way, it'd be good to have someone that can check 1s at an elite level. Danny Green is pretty much the only guy on the team that can play very good defense against the best PGs in the NBA. The rest of the team really struggles defending a lot of the most explosive PGs in the NBA.

Edit : forgot to mention Cory. His defense isn't too bad at the PG spot. Would Bazemore be a better overall defender than Joseph?
Well take what I say with a grain of salt. I've seen a little bit of the guy and done a good amount of research, but other than his time with the Lakers he hasn't played much in the NBA. That being said, if we are talking 2nd unit/bench guys Bazemore should be able to defend positions 1-3. As far as defending the explosive PGs of the league, I doubt Bazemore would be better then CoJo, at least this year. While Bazemore's 6"11 wingspan helps him disrupt passing lanes, the biggest knock on his defense in both college and the NBA has been his tendency to let up in ISO situations and get blown past by quicker players. He is also undersized at the 3, but could probably play spot minutes at the 3 similar to what Beli played last season.

Bazemore is intriguing but its difficult to plot a course for the guy. He has played in 2 drastically different systems (GSW where they had a defensive system but no system on offense, and the exact opposite in LAL). He definitely has potential on D due to his length and versatility, but his offense still has a ways to go (has a slow release on his shot, FT troubles, not really a play-maker). I think he is a guy that makes sense next year when they could potentially lose Manu, Green, and/or Beli, but wouldn't be utilized much this year.

Good point. If the FO realizes how much of a liability Belinelli was on the defense end and they are trying to address that by looking at guys like Bazemore, then I am all for that.

Do you guys think Vince Carter was that good in round 1 because he played great, or do you think Belinelli's defense made him look great? Probably a little bit of both, but I will say, there were times in that series where I was thinking that Beli's D is making Carter look like prime VC again.

I personally like Bazemore. If the Spurs can get them with their Bi-annual Exception he is well worth it. However, the Spurs are at a disadvantage considering the Hawks are willing to give him 2 years/$6 million and most likely much more playing time. Getting a guy like Bazemore would allow Ginobili to get more rest during the regular season and as many of you have mentioned, a much better defender than Belinelli.

I'm fine with Bazemore. I believe the Spurs can make him a decent player. Someone is going to overpay Danny Green next summer. I doubt the Spurs will match. Spurs need to find a cheap replacement. This year will give FO time to decide between Marco and Bazemore.

His advanced numbers aren't impressive. Some are terrible.

    Small sample size though.

I don't really think he's what the Spurs need right now.

    Wrong thread.

Tough to see any PG or SG who could get minutes elsewhere competing for scraps here.

I would rather the team develop players rather than using their deep-bench slots on mid-salary players. The team could lose A LOT of talent after the season, and I am hoping there are some players in the pipeline to replace them. Anderson should be one, and LJC/Bertans could be another. But I really don't like Bazemore as one, especially if he's going to make part of the MLE.

    Per my sources..

The meeting with Kent Bazemore didn't go so well. He was looking for a multi-year deal somewhere in the range of 10-11 mil per year.

What kind of minutes does he want? He doesn't mean playing time, right?

Yeah, they acquired him from GS as part of the Steve Blake trade.

I'd give him 10M. But I'd structure it as a 10-year contract at 1M per season with a team option after every year.

Ok, I know you can't even get close to doing that. But it's be such an amazing contract!

Funnier than the stuff being tweeted by the rumormongers that we react to as if their information has any factual basis.
