He's more than a role player - 17/6/4 on 47% shooting is nothing to sneeze at but jeez - $15 mil a year for Parsons?

Sources say Parsons' deal is likely to possess a player option after the second season -- which could make Parsons a free agent in the summer of 2016 alongside star Rockets center Dwight Howard -- and a hefty trade kicker.

Not worth it all. He's really in the 10-12 million range MAYBE.

just realized there's a dreaded player option there and a trade kicker (aka poison pill which we all know morey hates) if the roc match, this would be the third time they have overpaid for a role player (asik, lin and parsons)

RFA game make sure you offer high enough money so other team doesn't match offer sheet. Jazz got screw same way by refusing to pay Gordon $1 million in deal more to extend Hayward contract. Now they have to pay $3-$4 million more if they want him. RFA wins!

Who says they will match? Parsons has been struggling with back spasms last year. The lol is on Cuban.

I wonder if this is what Dirk had in mind when he took that "pay cut", hoping to bring in impact players??

The dude plays one side of the court. You would think for 15mil a year you'd get a great all around player...

This. Mavs would have been better off signing Ariza.

    You guys will match

    It's either Parsons or

    Beg Ariza to come back
pay Paul Pierce of his asking price
    Evan turner
    Or go for Deng

None are better than Parsons at this point

The trade kicker is meaningless. He's already getting the max, so his salary can't increase.

Really don't know why the mavs are so excited about this. Parsons is Trevor Ariza with worse defense.

True. It makes sense for us, but I'd let him go just to up the cap for Cuban.

It's not meaningless. The bonus will be there if he's traded.

Truth is ,Parsons will be making a lot more money than Dirk if he ends up with Dallas. It's a moral victory strong arming the opposition but I don't see much gain in here from the Mavs perspective.

If Rockets do match, I hope they take up most of the 3 days and sign at 11:59pm. Therefore causing Cuban to lose on Deng and Ariza.

Nope. Kickers don't get applied if the player is already making at least the max. The cap would have to grow faster than Parson's deal to give him any money at all.

    From the CBA FAQ:

A player's salary added to his trade bonus cannot exceed the maximum for that season (based on years of service). For example, in 2011-12 the maximum salary for a player with 7-9 years of service is $15,506,632. If such a player has a $15 million salary and a $1 million trade bonus, then his trade bonus is pared down to $506,632 when he is traded. This happens automatically -- the player has no say in the matter. The same is true for trades of rookie scale contracts that include a trade bonus. If the salary added to the trade bonus exceeds 120% of the player's scale salary amount (see question number 49) the trade bonus is reduced automatically when the player is traded.

He fits in with our offense, good passer and shooter with size to held spread the floor because our pg and Monta can't shoot. He is overpaid but the duo of him/dirk at 25m is a good price so it works out. Arizas two best years were both in his contract years which is a bit risky. Also he was never a huge 3pt threat until this past season. Is parsons a decent defender when motivated? I've seen a few games of him and he didn't look terrible but I'm not sure

deng would be a ty fit, great d but his lack of outside shooting along with monta and our PGs who can't shoot would cause spacing issues imo. also has durability issues.

Bring back carter/Marion on near vet mins if possible and try to find an average pg that can defend and make open 3s and it will be a nice offseason. I'm not sure how much cap we got tho
