Being reported that there is no sign and trade. So it looks like the Spurs lost him for the same exact money they had to offer (unless they somehow had more money that we aren't seeing). Chalk it up to San Antonio unfortunately.

We were talking about that a few pages back. With the Illinois state tax, that means he took less to play for the Bulls.

Once a loser, always a loser. Good luck with the Bulls, when Rose will go down within the first 20-25 games again..

Kyle Anderson looks pretty damn good, and another year of experience for Leonard, Splitter, Mills, Diaw, and Baynes is a plus. Gasol used the Spurs as leverage, but he did it to get himself less money, which pretty much proves he never seriously entertained the idea of going to them.
While no other team improved (yet), Spurs arguably got worse. While they brought everyone back, not only have they not added anyone else, but lost Patty for 7 months with no guarantee he will be effective this year. Spurs may be ok, but it's not a stretch to say Spurs are slightly worse so far (off season is not over though).

Will it matter? We will see.

I thought the Bulls could go $6.5[?] million and the Spurs could only go $5.3 million.

As many of us said, Gasol to Chicago makes by far the most sense..they offer him much more than the Spurs could, tbh..

Getting touches/having a big role is a huge priority for him..
    And the Chicago nightlife, tbh.

I think the value in someone like Ayres versus Gasol is the willingness to just ride the bench when you aren't needed. He understands he's paid to just come in garbage time. Bonner is the same. You're ready when your name is called. Someone like Gasol, even on a MLE expects a certain amount of playing time and that comes with being a former #1 pick and first option. Most guys in the NBA aren't wired like Duncan or Ginobili who don't care about stats/playing time.

That being said, even on a vet minimum, you would think the Spurs could find a hidden gem or someone with more potential to replaced Ayres. Give someone like Daye/Baynes priority in garbage time because he might actually amount to something one day but obviously Pop always elects to go with the veteran that knows the system in Bonner.

Even though that is being reported unless there is something we are missing (some random trade exception, ect..) they should only have the mid-level. Unless they are dumping players/amnesty of Boozer.

The West didn't really get any better, the Spurs re-signed Diaw and Patty, Duncan opted in, and they still have the MLE. Great off season so far!
Could Duncan have opted out and signed a 2 year deal for less $$ to have available for PGaso?

Bron took 2 years because the cap is going to be higher in 2016. Max money will be greater then than now. He's committed long-term to the Cavs. He'll retire there. He wouldn't dare leave again.
My sources tell me that he will play out his two years with the Cavs then commit to football as WR for the Cleveland Browns.

Arguably is right. Half a season without Mills gives Joseph and Anderson a lot of time to run the point, and means Cotton may be traveling back and forth from Austin. Baynes should be ready to step into the rotation for Bonner and Ayres, and again, Splitter and Leonard and Green are still improving. This is all a week in to free agency where we haven't even seen the Spurs negotiating with anyone yet.

People, do you ever learn? I mean seriously. It's the Spurs/OKC and then everyone else. No other team is a threat. Not even close. It was the Clips, then Golden state, then Rockets/Blazers this past season, they're pretenders. All of them. Just chill the out. We got Ayres. You can't teach his kind of hustle.

First round exit, this team sucks!

i don't think this is Spurs FO's fault. Pau probably didn't like the idea of being just another international getting his minutes/touches spread out. He gets to be more of the guy in Chiraq.

I'm unsure how it's not obvious to everyone that he never intended to go to San Antonio. He took LESS MONEY to play for the Bulls. It's not like the role the Spurs had for him changed in the last week.

I think Anderson is going to be a good piece come playoff time.

And Kawhi will be a year older and better.
