We did. You see them around anymore?
All the proxy wars fought in Asia, South America, Eastern Europe, all the spy game maneuvering, and all the space and military arms races were to that end. We knew Soviet Russia was a dead man walking with their flawed economic system.
We preferred to take no side in World War II, actually. But after we were involved, we played the situation perfectly. We knew the the Nazis couldn't fight a war on two fronts, so we bolstered the Western front with our man power, while supplying the Soviets with what they needed on the Eastern front. We sustained minimal casualties all things considered, while the Soviets lost millions. Nazi Germany, the most powerful country in Europe at the time, was taken out and the other European countries were weakened and in (our) debt, thus letting us assume position as the premiere Western superpower.
That's a "master race" move, and you should be thankful your feet get to touch American soil everyday.
That said, I shouldn't pat ourselves on the back too much. European barbarians aren't exactly hard to out think.
