Knowing that Patty Mills is out for seven months, what would you think should the efficient market price for a 3-year contract (ignoring Bradley, Livingston and Meeks).
    Kevin Pelton
I think a mid-level offer for three years still would have been reasonable. That's about $16-17 million, or about a third more than Mills reportedly got from the Spurs.

Collison got 3 years 16 mil from the Kings, and I wouldn't play him over CoJo let alone Mills.

Did Patty's market value drop because of his shoulder injury, or did he and the Spurs just find a fair number that made them both happy?
    Kevin Pelton
Almost certainly the former, although who knows what his value was going to be given the way various teams dislike shoot-first point guards.

In the beginning Patty was given limited time to rest Parker to play with assist passes;at the end the whole team knew Pop gave Mills the green light to shoot whenever Patty thought it was available. The improvement in Mills was clear. No matter the future I will never forget James attempting to close Patty down in the corner when Patty reacted by flashing past James on the baseline for the layup. To me that moment in the last game of the playoffs signalled Patty was a complete player not just a 3 point shooter but a thinking quick player. Spurs got a bargain. Aussie! Aussie ! Aussie! Every time the Spurs have won the le, they had a cold-blooded three point shooter.

Mills is no point guard, Horry was no power forward, Bowen couldn't dribble a basketball and Kerr was barely even an NBA player. But they were all that guy.

It was essential that the Spurs re-sign Mills.

And it had nothing to do with filling the backup PG slot.

He's diving all over the place and he has an injured shoulder?
Exactly my thoughts. Just in case, they should forbid him to towel waving

Fixed for accuracy. Steve Kerr won les in multiple places for a reason. He spent a lot of time as the backup point guard for the Spurs when Claxton was injured, and his biggest play in that game against Dallas was on defense.

Yeah, Jaren Jackson led the Spurs in 3-point attempts and makes in the 1999 playoffs. His most memorable game was closing down the Great Western Forum in LA. He used to pound his head and shake it after his made 3s.

That's a great post. And I'd add Stephen Jackson to that list. His strength while he was with us the first time was cold-blooded three point shooting. He was really a pretty incomplete basketball player otherwise back then, contrary to how some fans remember him.

Each le team has had more than one. Elie was huge for the '99 team, Manu hit big threes in every run starting when he was a rookie. Can't forget Fin, either.

Jackson I, Elliott, Elie, Kerr, Jackson II, Bowen, Ginobili, Barry, Horry, Finley, Green, Belinelli (yes, his two big 3s against OKC and Miami put him up here), Mills...

I'm sure I'm probably missing some here, but every championship team has had at least a couple deadeye shooters capable of making big shots on the big stage.

Awesome news. If there is ever a more perfect one two punch at point guard, it easily comes down to Parker/Mills and Paul/Collison. They just function so well. I'm a happy Spurs fan. I would like to see Diaw back on the right deal. This is quite less than what I saw Patty getting. But, good to see that he's loyal to the team that gave him his big break. #BlewitPortland

Wow, the Spurs low balled him big time. So much for the Spurs 'taking care of their own'. How much did Shawn Livingston sign for again?
