We already have a backup SF. His name is Manu Ginobili. Manu-Marion isn't a better backup combo than Beli-Manu against benches.

Players like Marion, Thabo, Prince, etc are only useful in the starting lineup when they can guard an opposing team's best perimeter scorer and take open threes created by others. If you bring him off the bench you are sticking him on the Alonzo Gee's of the league while not getting any isolation scoring or shot creation. There is a reason why once Thabo wasn't in the SL for OKC you never saw him again.

I'm ambivalent on the possibility of Marion on the Spurs.

One the one hand, he's obviously a decent SF who can play smallball PF if needed. On the other hand, his 3P shooting is suspect enough that I'm not convinced he'll fit in as anything except a smallball PF on the Spurs.

If he's asking for the full MLE, I say pass.

Defense is the biggest concern here. Spurs struggled when Kawhi got in foul trouble early. Based off his performance last year against Kawhi, he can still give 20 mpg of stellar defense.

Plus like he said in an interview before, he was very knowledgable of the Spurs System bc he has been studying it since his Suns day. Diaw said the same thing and he caught on pretty fast. MLE this year should only be used on guy that is going to help the Spurs now. Duncan has two more good years left in him. Marion said he wanted to play for two more years but on a contending team. Win win for the Spurs IMO.

Agreed. We've no swingman defender except Kawhi in the team. (Sorry Green)

Marion is an incosistent shooter but he can help in the defense to back-up Kawhi.

I'm not sure about the market but can we bring Marion with using only biannual exception and not touching MLE.

It will take at least most if not all the MLE. He is worth it, IMO.

At this stage of his career I don't think he is worth the whole MLE because his defense isn't what it was and his offense is suspect But he may be the best option for what is left on the market.
