smh...melo is one of the best scores in nba history. his place amongst the greatest knicks and players in league history is cemented, ring or not. at this point, fucc a ring. its all about that cashing them checcs. i swear you geeks think like peasants.
No. Melo tried to spot the ring, get a lock on it, but, it kept moving out of view, first in Miami, then upon intense consideration in Chicago. It just was not crystal clear. And if it's not locked Anthony won't strain for it. It has to be a certainty. Therefore he can live without it,,,just fine.

I'm fine with players chasing the money. But you can't deny that a lot of athletes give up some of the cut to win. Melo isn't one of em

A few years ago I dreamed of coming back to New York City, the place of my birth, and on February 23, 2011 that became a reality. This organization has supported me and in return, I want to stay and build here with this city and my team. At this pivotal juncture in my career, I owed it to myself and my family to explore all of the options available to me. Through it all, my heart never wavered.

During this journey I met with some quality organizations who have amazing talent and leadership. I thank them for their consideration, belief in my talent, and opportunity to imagine the possibilities.

I will always remember this chapter in my life. In the end, I am a New York Knick at heart. I am looking forward to continue my career in Orange & Blue and to work with Phil Jackson, a champion who builds championship teams. Madison Square Garden is the mecca of basketball and I am surrounded by the greatest fans in the world.
When has the bolded ever happened? Phil never built .

SMH Trill basically calling Melo better than Duncan/Parker/Gino since they didn't "get that paper" and instead took less to win.

Funny thing about Trill talking is dude makes less money himself than probably half the people on ST (but he's young and hopefully working towards a degree that can change that).

But Carmelo won't be a footnote in NBA history. He's a nobody who's kept afloat because he can shoot jumpers and was part of a talented draft class. He's done the worst of all the supposed stars of the class and isn't even fun to watch.

Couldn't disagree with this thread more. At this point, Melo's only chance of being truly remembered is winning one in NY. He's already 30 so he is past his prime in terms of impressive individual accolades, though I'm not saying he couldn't rack up a few more scoring les. Signing to New York was the best chance for him to be truly immortilized by at least one fan base in NY who would consider him a godsend if he were to deliver one. I definitely think he should have taken less money, but his decision to stay was the right one. Chicago wasn't a guaranteed championship, who knows how rose will play or if he'd fit into what they want to do. It seems like a nice fit in theory, but maybe he wouldn't have liked Thibs, or Rose wouldn't have been healthy, or some other combination of factors. I'm a little biased cuz he's one of my favorite players, but I kinda trust that Phil will have them in ECF contention within 2 years and that he will be viewed much differently when that happens. People who have actually been paying attention to his game the last few years will tell you he's much more than the 1 dimensional ball hog people have tried to sell him as.

Obviously all the scenarios you mentioned are possible. But until the Knicks become serious contenders, Anthony is rightfully viewed as a liar & only caring about money. It's unlikely in the span of 2 or even 3 years the Knicks will be able to surround him with the equivalent of Noah, Rose, Top 5 Head Coach & bench depth. Most likely Phil will end up trading Anthony within that time span.

This doesn't come as a surprise. I don't think he'll be one you'll remember for all-time. He'll be one of those that you'll probably be reminded of when ESPN or NBC re-hashes the annuals of the Knicks and say the 'what-if' prose that will definitely follow the Melo legacy (if he has one...). He'll be remembered among NCAA fanatics as his freshman run to get Boeheim and his archaic basketball style a le--probably Boeheim's last as coach @ Syracuse. Unless Phil and the rest can miraculously bring a le he'll be an afterthought of the Class of '03.

the criticisms of his game aren't entirely fair though. Sure, he isn't an elite defender by any means but he's certainly better than harden, curry, and some other superstars. He isn't Lebron or even durant in terms of passing, but he makes the right play if there is a right play to be made. He's not the same kid he was in Denver, if you were to surround him with a championship caliber team I really think he could have an MVP type season. Like the 2013 Knicks he finished top 5 in MVP voting if I'm not mistaken, and that team really didn't have much talent.

I enjoy watching him play and agree, under the right cir stances he would be an MVP nominee. I think it's been a while since he was challenged in the franchise so maybe Phil will bring that. Neutral fans want to see LeBron challenged by his peers and Anthony represents a guy capable of that. But right now they see an aging star in the middle of a rebuilding project.

yeah I agree with all of that, I think lebrons success is what has put Anthony in a bad light because as you said, people want Lebron to be challenged and melo hasn't really stepped up to the plate. Melo feels as if he is lebrons equal, but really hasn't shown that much over his career. I would love to see a playoff series between the two now

Where does his legacy now stand?

Will you even remember Anthony 20 years down the line, unlike Paul Pierce?
He's the 21st Century Dominique Wilkens

Yup, they called 'Nique the Human Highlight Reel for a reason. With Melo, it is boring to watch them throw it into him on the wing and then he does a bunch of jab step before finally launching a fadeaway that goes in 45 percent of the time.
