http://www.csnwashington.com/basketb...bcs&ocid=yahooBut back to Durant. There has been speculation all of last season about him coming up for free agency and leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to play in D.C., his hometown. But make no mistake, this isn't conjecture anymore. It's real. The hiring of David Adkins, who coached Durant in high school, from the University of Maryland's women's team as assistant coach to player development for the Wizards this past week isn't a coincidence.
The building blocks are being put in place now. Ariza is off the books and Porter, who is playing on a rookie scale contract, is a much cheaper option. Nene, who will make $26 million for the next two seasons, will be off the books as well.
LeBron James announced that he was going home to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. In about two years, the Wizards want to at least put themselves in position to help the city's favorite son make a similar decision.
If OKC doesn't win a le in the next two seasons, this is definitely a legit possibility. He will go home and try to win one for his city just like James is doing. No reason to keep trying to win one for some hole city he has no connection to.
He's a beta follower so why wouldn't he copy Bron's career path (minus the rings)
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...medium=twitter"I don't think anybody, to be quite honest with you," Smith said. "Obviously the New York Knicks would be in the mix and what have you. But there are folks that I've spoken to that are relatively close to Kevin Durant that tell me if he were to decide to leave Oklahoma City, it would be for the nation's capital. That's the kind of dude he is. That's a place that he would consider.
"I certainly don't want to sit here as a reporter and insider and try to give indications that he's planning on leaving Oklahoma City," Smith said. "I don't know that to be sure. I don't know that to be the case. But I was told that if there is a team that would be strongly considered, it is the Washington Wizards, and him returning home."
Stephen A. is a blowhard, but he does have some solid sources around the league (he called the Heat's Big Three, the Doc trade, and LeBron's return to Cleveland well in advance).... boiled down:::RefKC = fcked if they don't ring in the next two years....
Would make for a great ECF vs. the Cavs against James and Wiggins.
I have a friend who's a prospect in JuCo (6'9", 215, very fast but awkward) and he plays against/with Durant a lot. Says that Durant comes back to DC all the time (monthly or so) to ball with the locals etc. Not sure if that's public knowledge, but KD definitely still considers Washington home.
sounds like he should go to the front office and ask for a new coach or a new o coach if their is a chance he stays with the thunder
He's going to Washington. I'll root for him there yall. OKC for doing him dirty.
This wasn't a well-kept secret and it has been known if you follow the dude on the ol FB--he's always in D.C. and it would mirror the LeBron thing. They have the hometown factor and if OKC doesn't rang he's probably going to end up thurr.
The big knock on DC is the murder rate but after a few seasons next to Westbrook he'll feel right at home in a city full of people who shoot indiscriminately.
I live in DC. It's a pretty safe place, just don't go to the SE area where 85% of the crime occurs.
