IF the lakers did pick up Lance (they won't for the reasons in my previous post) for 12 mil a year, they're ed. next summer he and Kobe are gna combine for 37 mil if thats the case. on top of Hill/Young/Randle thats 54 million for those 5 guys... giving you no hope of landing a star next summer, meaning ud have a 3rd straight ty year
If we sign Lance and Kobe is back to form we compete for top 6 teams in the West...Lance is that good...you don't pass upon a player that can guard Lebron, is an elite level defender, can legitimately guard 3 positions and can shoot 50% from the ing field....you sign that player

Could work, but from what I'm hearing, Mitch wants as much cap flexibility as possible for next season. Stretching Nash and then signing Lance puts another unneeded 15 million cap hit for next year.

It's not worth it for Lance. He isn't a cornerstone player.

Lance isn't but Kiwi is? I don't get it...Lance is a premier defender and shoots 50% from the field...Can Kiwi do that?

Stretching Nash doesn't make sense at this point though. The Lakers are looking forward to let it expire altogether in a season like this.

they went after Melo to maximize Kobe's last 2 yrs at potentially winning...so why wouldn't stretching Nash make sense if maximizing Kobe is the intent....there's nothing on the radar for 2015 except a Kevin Love who's hasn't played a single play-off game is entire life...

but to my point Cap flexibility means nothing when you signed Kobe to 48 mil....you go for it...we're not going to get a top 5 pick next year with Kobe playing..Our team is much better than last season...it's a ing waste of time to think we're going to get it

like I said even without Lance our team right now is much improved over last self....so how are we gonna get a top 5 protected? it ain't happening....we couldn't even tank properly last season now we get Julius and basically stole the 46 pick no way we're getting top 5 pick

I'm having wet dreams thinking about effective Lance and Lin would be in our backcourt...Lin doesn't get the recognition he deserves and even though he's not a good defender no one can really stop Lin from penetrating...he's pretty dam good...him and Lance would be awesome in my view

you've been wrong about everything for quite some time when it comes to basketball... thought young/farmar were gna tear it up, thought lakers were gna be good, thought the spurs would choke/lose. you thought melo was gna come FOR SURE ( by the way). just calm down for a sec. the lakers right now aren't even as "good" as they were last year. you lost Pau who was your best player all season. the only difference is Kobe will be there to start the season, but its only a matter of time till he gets hurt, legitimately or not. he'll overexaggerate an injury when he realizes the team is going nowhere so he won't have to affiliate himself with the ty team

Had they signed Melo, yes I can see them stretching his contract but since it failed, their plan has shifted. They're now filling up the rosters with mostly 1 yr deals to either use them as trading chip(s) before the deadline or to create cap in 2015 and 16. It has been said via Pincus that the Lakers do not want the extra $3 million baggage from Nash when the Lakers become major players again in FA.

    Another note on Lance:

He led the leauge with five triple doubles last season, and led all guards in rebounds with 7.2 a game, and is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league

the lakers with or without lance or no threat to the Spurs, so i really don't care. heck, adding lance would make them a better team and more entertaining, and i catch all their games since i'm local, so i wouldn't be against that. but i'm just being real with ya. its not gna happen. and if it does, they're ing their future over just to finish a few spots higher in the standings this year, while costing themselves a draft pick

It doesn't make sense....2016 is when Kobe comes off and Durant is available...signing Lance now is the right thing to do...especially since Hill comes off in 2 yrs as well...I don't know what you guys are seeing that I'm not

They're going to really develop Randle this year and raise his value. Bet on that. He's going to be another trading chip assuming Love is still on the table. Buss is going all for the next two years after his promise to step down if the Lakers
Doesn't become contenders soon and my guess is by 2016, he will absolutely, unequivocally pursuit Durant.

true. if randle has a really strong showing in the first half of this year, minnesota could see him as a guy they'd want, and he'd be cheap/under contract for 4 years. he's gna have to come on really strong, and since ur roster is , he'd get plenty of chances to put up scoring numbers tbh

and that's why you sign Lance now....with Kobe coming off the books in 2016...you're gonna need someone to entice Durant and then force Kobe to re-sign or resign....either one....I'm telling I got it all figured out...I just don't think I'm wrong on this...in 2016 Durant will be looking at our roster and his desire to win and if nothing is there he's passing on the Lakers just like Melo did

you think Durant is going to leave an ego like Westbrook to come join an ego with less talent like Lance? he'd sooner go to Washington

He's not trading in one small market for another if the lakers have a talented Roster he can compete with..He want's some of that Hollywood limelight....it's written all over his face

the "laker brand" and the "hollywood limelight" has gotten you nowhere in the last 4 years. the only free agent you guys have drawn was Nash

Koolaid_Man I don't think you're wrong but they just don't see Lance as a worthy investment given his history. That's probably why they're steering away from him. My guess is having a serviceable big man is a better platform than a wing player with mental issues. So my guess is Love, Aldrige, DJ and Gasol are their targets in 2015. If all else fail, then they will probably proceed picking up Jordan Hill's option, continue developing Randle and continue singing players for cheap and go all out in 2016.

I honestly just don't see any other resolution unless another team's incomptence comes into play and trades their disgruntled star for peanuts to the Lakers.
