interesting video put together for Bortles, Bridgewater, Manziel, and Carr. it shows every single of one their completed passes that traveled 20 yards or more in the air during their last season of college ball. take what you will, as it shows all their completions, none of the incompletions.

Bortles had 23 such completions (start of the video to 1:23 mark)
    Bridgewater had 33 (1:23 to 3:09)
    Manziel had 34 (3:09 to 4:58)
Carr had 52 (4:59 to end of video)

Bortles looks like he struggles to get the ball to travel further than 25 yards, but he's the one that makes these throws while going down, being hit, or in a very congested pocket. He and Bridgewater were throwing a lot of ducks or relying on "touch" throws. Manziel and Carr actually showed arm strength, and yeah Carr obviously has the best arm of the bunch. I just hope it translates over time

the first 4-5 throws after the 6:55 mark are probably throws that none of the other 3 can make tbh

the most likely scenario is that Carr doesn't see any meaningful regular season action this year, and it sounds like that's the plan with Bortles as well. Teddy and Johnny will be tested early

Based on that video alone, Johnny Football better hope he has a tall ass wide receiver that can catch everything thrown within 5 yards of him. It's crazy how many of his passes are to what's his nuts.

while i'm not very high on Manziel, i think the Evans reliance has been a bit overstated. it was his favored receiver, sure, but evans is also the only NFL caliber receiver there, so the talent disparity has to be accounted for. but yes, tall rangy wide receivers (and typically tight ends) are favorites of running qb's

    RECEIVING STATISTICS
NAME REC YDS AVG LONG TD
    Mike Evans 69 1394 20.2 95 (TD) 12
    Derel Walker 51 818 16.0 51 (TD) 5
    Malcome Kennedy 60 658 11.0 34 7
    Travis Labhart 51 626 12.3 44 (TD) 8

if 2013 Schaub shows up, Carr will start by October... if 2008-2012 Schaub shows up, different story

quite possible. if oakland doesn't add to its receiving core or have somebody emerge as a #1, its a difficult spot for a young qb to thrive

every throw by Bortles in the vid was a duck ... dude throws like a kid in middle school trying to throw as far as he possibly can

are you basing that on the video, or just polluting another thread?

a video of course isn't an end all be all, but its interesting to compare how the QB's look when completing throws with distance

when he's done with Kyle Anderson he's all yours. The thing you gotta like about Bortles though is that he's the anti-gabbert. Dude will hang in the pocket as take a hit and still hits his throws in a congested/muddy pocket. Id like to think he can get more zip with improved mechanics. There's no way he's that weak

The real question is, what's the new fantasy value of James Jones? Seems like a deep, deep bench addition at this point. But he is seemingly the number 1 pass catching option. A guy in my league decided to keep MJD over Alfred Morris so I'm looking to snag him at some point early on in the draft. He's taking a huge gamble on the resurgence of MJD, but I would've went with the sure thing of Alf Morris. There are two elite TE's left on the board and I pick fourth. If either one is there I'll take one, and hopefully Morris is there on the way back around.

i wouldn't bank on a raiders receiver to be a starting fantasy WR... denarius moore has had productive stretches over the last few years, but never sustained. i have my doubts that Jones can be a legit WR1 for an NFL team. keeping MJD was an awful choice, he's going to be competing with McFadden for early down work while not being their main receiving back...

Yeah I would never risk a starting spot with a player like Jones, thus the deep bench inclinations. I had Moore on my bench a few years back. I was shocked that Morris came free, and the guy is really not a bad fantasy manager at all which made the selection even more confusing. I'm hungry for the trophy this year as I came in second last year. I wanna put my name on that thing finally.

Anything coming out of camp of a potential emerging player that the outsider non Raider fan would be unaware of?

If David Ausberry is healthy he's a tight end to target late. Schaub has always loved using tight ends, and Ausberry is one of those phsyical specimen types with 4.4-4.5 wheels

also despite my earlier comment should keep an eye out on receiver battles/rotation. raiders receivers last year had massively deflated stats because Pryor was our QB was a majority of the season. not that schaub is some wunderkind but it should be a more consistent offense.

Not sure yet. I think if he's healthy Ausberry will beat him out tbh. he can just physically do things that rivera can't. he's just had a bunch of stupid injuries so far in his career that have kept him out, but nothing horrible like ACL tears and such

My draft is August 23rd, so by the third pre season game I should be able to get an idea of whether or not he'll get the nod. But, we do play each other the final pre season game (evaluation purposes) so I could always make a late addition, or add him to the watch list to have as a post draft addition. I'm wondering if Paul Richardson will make his way up the depth chart. He can really fly. 4.3 at the combine, but he had an official sub 4.3 dash before.

unless ur in a 14 team league with some raider fans i think both will be available after the draft
