And a vital step between Django and Louis Jordan-style jump blues = the 5 Spirits of Rhythm. If you're into guitar, these guys were amazing.

Wow. Thanks Havoc for reminding me about this thread I made a while back.
It stuck with me. Perhaps the name, which was perfect. Definitely already turning into an old fart in my early 30s, can't bear pop/hip hop radio anymore. Last night there was a song that said the same words over and over for 35 seconds and I just had to stop and think about what I was actually pushing into my brain.

For a long time, I fought that my music taste was getting too refined and I was moving towards music snob territory. I used to chase hip hop groups through abandoned warehouses and stadiums alike. Did the festivals and found myself elevating my mind at Coac a/Bonnaroo. It was as the years past, that I couldn't fathom pop or anything on the radio and so it is okay to demand a type of music that nurtures instead of destroys.

Agree. Still some good hip hop/rap out there. Aesop Rock, El-P, Lupe Fiasco, Andre 3k, Watsky (hit or miss but solid when he's on, check out his new track "Whoa", hilarious), do hold the torch up for the past even though HH has gone global and into clubs.

Jazz is so... warm, though. Alluring. It's an experience as opposed to a tune you just blast through your head and then hum the rest of the day.

I do most of my creative stuff while under the influence of jazz. I do agree there is still great hip hop out there like the acts you've mentioned. Haven't caught Watsky but Pro Era and Slaughterhouse are still faves of mine as well as TDE but I still enjoy the Cunninglynguists, Souls of Mischief, People Under the Stairs, De La, and Hiero/Jurassic 5.

Not to hijack the Jazz thread, but some of my favorite tracks as of recent:

Back to the focus, The Cookers are fantastic:

Hardly obscure to a real jazz fan. Those Ma Rainey tunes with a jazz band backing her, whoa!!!!!!!
