So I've been a fan of Football Manager for years and I've always wondered why nobody made a similar game for basketball. Well someone took the first step. Check out http://basketball-gm.com/
It's a really nice (and free) browser-based basketball simulation game. You become the GM of a team. You draft players, make trades, sign free agents, and adjust the roster to try to build a dynasty. But if you lose too many games or spend too much money, you might get fired. You' can't play the games themselves, but you can watch the play-by-play. I've played for about a week and it's very easy to get into and very addictive.
NBA licenses are expensive so the vanilla version of the game uses some weird team names like Boston Massacre and Atlanta Gold Club. The players are also randomly generated. But fear not, for custom-made NBA rosters are already available. With these you can play with the actual teams and actual players.

The nice thing is, the creator made it as a hobby so everything's free. I'm not associated with the game in any way, I just thought I'd help spread the word because this game has so much potential.

agree, if a basketball simulation game could be made as real and easy to play as FM, the game is guaranteed to hit massive success tbh.

I'm really excited about this game because the only basketball management game that I manage to find before this was only for the Euroleague. Hoping to see basketballGM gets more attention so that it can develop.

Strat-O-Matic basketball is the best sim game I've played.
It doesn't have the glitz and the graphics of other games, but the players realistically perform as they do, IRL.
Is it funnier than NBA live's dynasty mode?
If you play with a small market team like San Antonio, a roster like that is unsustainable because you will definitely not make enough profit and will be probably be sacked after a few seasons. You can probably pull it off with a big market team and setting ridiculous ticket prices.
When I play with San Antonio I can afford at most 2 max contracts and I have to build around that. If ticket prices go even a bit high, attendance would drop.
Fast Break Basketball is fun too.
I was at -20M in the year I played and got bored pretty quickly.
