But, if someone prays TO a statue, carving, picture, or whatever, that would be considered a graven image.
If I pray to a hamburger, that would be a graven image.

Well then making common prayers like the Hail Mary was a bad idea with little foresight.
For example, blake may worship football, or the Spurs, drugs, alcohol, or his misconceptions of his life scope.
Some may worship money, social standing, or a corvette.
Others may worship a rock star, movie star, sports star, scientist, or a hero.
All would be false idols.
EDIT: Other people worship food, guns, instruments, animals, sex, your own good looks or intelligence or what have you, any of which could be false idols and/or graven images.

The key here is the word "WORSHIP", if you worship that "thing" instead of the En y that is God, then you are worshiping a graven image.

There are many things in life that you know to be the truth, yet they are not mentioned in the bible.

No one is praying TO Mary here in this prayer.
How can I say this? Because if someone believes in God, then thay are aware that EVERYTHING is OF God, and in this case, Mary is OF God, part of God as are all things and everyone, who ever was, ever is, and ever will be.
The Hail Mary prayer is a prayer "to" God "through" Mary (who is part of God). She in no way is a mediator, she mediates nothing, rather she is a "conduit" through which God is accessed easier, nothing more and nothing less.
If you want a drink of water, you can take a bucket and go to the well, but Mary is like the pipe that brings the well water to the taps, like a bridge or go-through, or inteceder.
Well, let me rephrase that, we do not know Gods thoughts, but we do know his plan. His plan does not and will not require of us to kill people.
