The notion that someone 'can't throw' when lining up under center is idiotic. Arm strength and accuracy don't magically disappear by lining up under center.

Right now he's clearly and understandably more comfortable in the shotgun. Making your QB feel comfortable is pretty important for a first game, so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

i agree tbh. my reasoning behind the manziel criticism has never been that he can't throw or he's a terrible passer.

Football missed a grand total of zero games in college. Every hit isn't 'near season ending', just stop.

Comment was moreso directed at dumbjohn. I know your issue with Football is that running is part of his game. I happen to think that if his passing is good+he is smart about it running only makes him more lethal.

Watch his post-game interview. The guy gets it--he knows passing should be his main focus and that when he runs he needs to avoid unnecessary hits.

at this point even a dislodged shoulder is already season ending... and a hit from a lineman coming from the blindside is pretty much season ending most of the time.. and that was a friendly game..

its nice that he said it, but thats literally what every running quarterback says

i've heard similar comments from RG3, Vick, Young, etc

It doesn't help when your OC calls running plays for you either.

But last season he showed that he could throw the ball more. He was more patient and didn't take off right away like he did freshman year. I think when you have a mobile QB, you don't want to take all of that away and make him just a pocket passer. However, I'd rather see Johnny get his rushing from freelancing and not from designed runs. The designed runs put more unnecessary hits on him than the scrambling.

yeah, pretty much always the same story, except that Knee actually had the arm strength and height to make those assumpions...

i think Rodgers/Luck are the ideal mobile QB's that these kids should model their games after. i'm also not a fan of designed runs for QB's except the occasional naked bootleg... or sneak/draw in short yardage.

I really think the Browns and the NFL missed the boat with Hard Knocks. Manziel = ratings. Strike while the iron is hot, imo.
