Where is that famous Robinson - Duncan picture when I need it
AUSTIN — Former Spurs center David Robinson, appearing at a civil rights summit here, told reporters Thursday that an athlete's sexuality should not change how they are treated by coaches and teammates.
“It shouldn't matter,” Robinson said at a news conference at the LBJ Presidential Library's Civil Rights Summit.
Robinson's comment comes one day after Derrick Gordon, a starter on the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team, told ESPN that he is gay.
He said athletes who are honest about their iden y gain respect from their peers.
Robinson, speaking after a panel about social justice at the summit at the University of Texas at Austin, told reporters he has known plenty of gay athletes during his career.
“We are all going to get challenged and persecuted. That's part of life, that's what it is,” Robinson said. “You're going to go through hard times, you're going to go through sad times, but it's how you face those sad times that makes people respect who you are and respect what you stand for.
“I think challenges like that are always a great opportunity for you to show your character and show who you are and show that you're able to stand up.”

Who cares? I live in a rainbow apartment complex but I don't tell everyone "hey, I live in an area with a lot of blacks and Latinos". Robinson is coming off like he wants to be rewarded for this . Who cares? Why is diversity an accomplishment or achievement?

I stated it. There is a difference. People feel this urge to tell everyone that they have a diverse group of friends in order to make themselves feel good.
