The 40 is never ran as a track event, it's used as a speed barometer in football. The fastest time ever ran was a 4.12 by Auburn running back Bo Jackson. Which is stunning considering he was a 220 pounder. Usually anything in that 4.35 world is considered legit jets.
Southern Illinois Ivory Crockett and Santa Monica CC/Cerritos Houston McTear share the 100 yard record at 9.0. The amazing thing there is that McTear ran that time as a HS junior.
I have a little story....
I was at the West Coast Relays in Fresno, when the PA announder..."this just in from the Florida State High School Championships......Baker Highs Houston McTear has just set a new high school record of....9 point 2...the crowd goes crazy with...woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!...the n the announcer...."that was in the semi final"
A little later the PA guy gets on again....
"this just in from the Florida State High School Track & Field Championships, you might wanna sit down for this one......Baker highs Houston McTear as just ran a 9.......................FLAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!" the crowd is going bonkers with....WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! then the announcer...."as most of younow that ties the world record'.
We will never see another HS sprinter run a sprint WR, that was a once in a lifetime occurance,
