Sure if the goal is keeping a cleaner sheet of information. Which is obviously important if that information, giving that specific environment, works well. But in rapidly changing environments it's important to produce as much variation as possible. Some of the RNA viruses are evidence that it can be quite handy.

Second to last sentence, yeah I guess if you consider how other biological lineages are able to exist in other conditions (on both extremes of the spectrum). Regarding the RNA viruses, which ones are you talking about? The ones that use the RT enzyme? It terms of "handiness", I'm trying to figure out what you mean by that. Are you going by efficiency?

The ability to mutate rapidly and produce diversity in a short period of time. RNA viruses do this well as do bacteria that use much simpler information mechanisms.

Cold viruses are actually more effective. But in the long run, all require a host. So Bacteria rule, evolutionarily.
